The regular Neon and the RT have different gears right? Does that have anything to do with the top speed or are the RT's geared different for acceleration. I wonder if both have the same top speed without any factory drawbacks.
Yeah the R/T's have the 3.94 and the regulars have the 3.55...gearing would affect top speed but that would mean an SXT would have a theoretical higher top speed (if your only looking at gearing/rpm duration) because each gear lasts "longer" in duration versus the "shorter" duration gears of the 3.94...however, mechanically i dont know if either would have a higher top speed because of the valvetrain, intake, exhaust, and PCM differences...

So again I dont know if that 138mph is simply where 5th gear redlines (3.94), or if its where the engine just cant make the car accelerate anymore, or whether its an electronic speed controller...

i found that if you cut the speedomiter it will trick the computer. in theory its believed the rt can hit 150 the srt 160 the acr 140 and the sxt 190. i believe i have the power to do it with anough running room or atleast get close.

Have you tried this trick on a 2nd gen Neon? Because the Neons speed limiter is on the PCM as far as i know, and the actual speed sensor is on the speedo gear on the output shaft on the transmission...so cutting the wire to the speedometer gauge wouldnt do anything except make you blind as to how fast you were going...I dont think theres a connection between the literal speedometer gauge and the speedo gear sensor that the PCM gets its data to determine when to apply the limiter...

bring up a dead post huh lol anyway when your cars in drive it will hit a rev limiter at about 105ish and your rpms will go to 4000 but if you have it in 1st that rev limiter is not there and it will keep goin up but eventually you will redline and its not good 4 the car. the car does keep accelerating after you hit the rev limiter of 4000 and the car will just shut off at 119

I'm confused because I have no idea what your trying to say here lol...but I'll just stick with all my previous posts in this thread about this topic (because I'm right!).

ok this is 4 an automatic:
if your car is in drive, when you hit about 105ish your rpms will drop to 4000 and they will not go up. the car will still accelerate but just slowly.
if you have the shifter in 1st it will still shift through all gears but at 105, the rpms will not drop to 4000, they will just keep goin up until you hit redline
either way, your car will shut off when you get to 119
