ok my car is stuck in park. it starts, it runs, but it won't go out of park. it is a 04 sxt. i press the brake and the button which i need to push on the shifter will not go in. i think it may be the relay for that switch, but i don't know where it is. if anyone does please let me know because i need my car and i need to fix this problem fast.

if you take the cener consule out ther is a lever that connects that button to a lock. I cant explain it but it only me an hour to take the seats out and then the console. That Might help!!! Good luck!

 

i cant really take the console out because i need to move the shifter first. does anyone know where the relay for the lock is?

 

well you can remove the handle part of the shifter. I belive all the relays are in the under hood fuse box.

 

the shift cable is under where the stock air box was... its right on top of the transmission.. something could be stuck inside of there.. just be careful when you try to pop it out of park..

 

well i found out that it was the shift interlock cable the solonoid or whatever it is but theres a safety clip you can just take off so there is no safety mechanism but whatever it works thanks guys

 

I am having the same problem. Can you tell me exactly where to find this "safety clip"?? I am lost under the hood of a car or under the dash. (It would be a different story if it was my motorcycle)

 

take off the center console and there is a cable going to the locking mechanism (just try to push the button and it will move a bit) thhen there is a blue spring there and theres a clip on the spring just take that off and your safely free

no problem i might get it fixed at the dealer if i can get it under warranty but if not ill prob just leave it.
