Default Manual to Auto...Please Read

So,
I was looking on the internet just seeing if it was possible, and someone said that to change an srt-4 to an auto...all you have to do is just replace the tranny?
and with its main source of hp being the turbocharger, im certain the automatic transmission (granted it would have to be a performance) could indeed work
I had to reedit this part
Im pretty sure it would work since the neon is an automatic car also.
All you would have to do is replace the transmission, the mechanics from the tranny to the shifter.
Could you get all the necessary parts from a SXT in the junkyard?

is this true?

it prolly is but you would blow that tranny in a heartbeat with an SRT4 Motor... and why in the hell would you want an automatic SRT4............ for that car you better learn how to drive stick and like it... or else.. lol but hey thats just my thought.....

here is a pic of 7 second auto srt-4... (DCR)

Also, think about this...

The PT GT uses the same motor and engine management as the srt-4, only difference being the intake manifold and IC piping. Now they do make a stage 1 kit for the PT GT, so u figure the tranny can hold up to the 235hp 260tq that dodge quotes for the kit. (also keeping in mind dodge under rates these motors)

just food for thought...

So graphite...your food is saying that all you would have to do is replace the transmission?

Cause I dont think it would blow the transmission if you get a PT stage 1 like you mentioned???

Is that all you would have to replace is the transmission and the shifter??

Yeah, that is pretty much what he is saying. You would need the rest of the stuff that goes with the tranny (I don't know all the exact pieces that you would need, but in a nutshell that is it). I would NEVER swap out a manual and put in an automatic, especially on an SRT4 but it is possible. That car looks so f'in badass. I don't care if it is automatic and runs 7s. I would still put it back to a stick if I got it like that. Thats how diehard I am about stick cars.

I agree withLowSlowNeon... I'm a hard core stick shift fan myself. although if i was specifically building a car for drag, then auto is the way to go. Boost will never drop and a professionally built auto tranny will shift faster than any manual.

To the original poster...

Its not as easy as just switching trannies. The stage one i was talking about is just the PT computer upgrade. It has nothing to do with the tranny. I was just using it as a power reference.

Other things to think about. I don't know the specifics, but axels may be different... You will have to run a PT computer in your neon srt-4. You'd have to swap out the shifter console for the automatic one. Dis-assemble your clutch assembly...

My suggestion would be to buy a salvaged PT GT so you have everything you need. When your done with the swap you will have no problem seilling the motor.

drag is the only way to go...it shows speed and controlability at high speed....autocross is for the weenies lol jk all kinds of street legal car racing...hell all car racing is difficult

Im pretty sure that if it were to happen. that it wouldnt just be a weekend job. or maybe it might if i had the instructions and a couple mechanics on my side.
