Default New sound system... first time

I'm looking for an upgrade for the current sound system. I have a 2004 model (if it makes a difference).

I was looking at some on eBay and I basically want to put in a sub and replace all the speakers with new ones... but honestly I have no idea where to start. I don't know how this all works even, or what I'm looking for. The make I was looking at is Kicker. Again though, I don't know which offers the best compatibility or whatnot.

So I basically need everything summed up for what I need to know before I invest. The make, model, placement... and I have a budget of under $500. Which, buying from eBay shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks.

well i think the stock system is really good. the only thing i have is 6 6x9s in the trunk with a 480watt amp powering them. the rest is stock and i'm really happy with it. the bass still shakes everything and it doesnt overpower the actual music

I know how amazing they are already. But I just want better. I listen to a wide variety of music and some of the songs I play the little stock bass can't handle. (I don't pump up my volume so everyone on the block can hear it) So I'm just looking for a little more "oomf" because I really love my tunes.

Also I notice that the rearview and side mirrors vibrate when the bass is used much... will this only go worse with a bigger beass or is this just a quality and placement issue?

more bass is just going to make the mirrors shake more. but for $500 i would keep the stock speakers and get a new headunit and good sub and amp. but thats just my .02

unless you get it stable your mirrors will get worse but for just a little boom i would suggest one 12 and a 300 kicker amp. and kicker mids and highs also get a better head unit like kenwood so you can take the base out of the mids and high

Depending on how much you want to spend there are a few things I would recommend:
- buy a deck, my favorites are eclipse which can be had for around 150 if you just want a basic cd player with mp3 capability
- buy a 6.5" componet set to replace the speakers
- ditch the rear fill aka the back speakers
- buy a single 10" or 12" sub, get something decent, you said you were looking at kicker, just get a CVX or CVR
- sticking with kicker get the ZX550.3 its a three channel amp that would power your component set and your sub
You will have a nice little SQ system for a decent price.

http://www.millionbuy.com I buy all my stuff from them... If you go with anything over 500 watts, I would highly recomend a capacitor because of the power output of your alternator. But if you go with 3 way speakers for the doors and the 6X9s in the rear powered by a 400 watt amp would make it sound amazing.... Buy the speakers that come with cross overs, they're worth it. As far as Subs, I would get two 10's in a bandpass for the clearest bass.

Either dump the rears or put 6 inch speakers, two 10s and a amp for now. Later when you upgrade the speakers, a three way is recommended but you will want to fiberglass the doors because it looks a lot cleaner. Good companies are Alpine, Kicker, Morel, JLand Arc Audio. It just depends if you want clean with bass or just bass. kapitald, no offense but your system isn't that get it might sound good for bass but that probally it.

Ire-did my whole sound system except for the tweeters. after going threw about three diff. setups id say go with some nice 10's and about a 400+ watt amp if u listen to mostly rock. But if u want a bit more umph with a wider veriaety of music id say go with one nice 12" sub and a pretty good ap power to power it. That way it hits hard when u want it too with out over doing it. w/e u do dont go the cheap route and make sure u no wut ur doin or else itll just be a waste of time and money ...lol trust me.
U can se my setup here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2405559
