Default problem after problem

okay, so i have had my neon for 15 months, and it seems to be one problem right after another. at 63,000 miles i had to have the stock auto tranny ripped out because it was torn up from the previous owner. i hadnt even had the car 4 months when this happened. when i test drove it, there wasnt a problem. it was something that built up over time....so after a new 5-speed went in, and $3,100 later, it started to look better. then came all the custom work....and right now im back to problems....

my brakes have been worked on 4 times in the past 2 months, for the SAME EXACT problem. i have had trouble with my PS system, and my O2 sensor died on me. not only that, my door lock button fell off....

now, keep in mind this is a 2003 sxt that i have modded.....but it still bugs me that it seems that every 2 weeks or so somethin else goes wrong with my car. im thinkin about sellin it. im tired of it draggin money out of my pocket. gettin rid of my cummins for a car to customize was the biggest mistake of my life. now i realize why they dont make these care anymore and why people dont like em. my friend has a 2003 sxt also and has had a ton of problems, and from what i hear, so have a million other people who drive neons....

as for now, im gonna throw a for sale sign in the window and see what i can get and start shoppin for a new cummins....

I know where you are coming from. About 4 months after I bought my neon, I had to get the brake system replaced...everything...cost over $1000. Then was my water pump...$350. Then came the body work from a guy backing into me...$400. Then I had to replace the evap cylinder...$400. Now I need a new cat and possibly a fuel pump. When my car doesnt have problems, I kinda like it. When there are problems, they come in bunches. When it rains, it pours...

If you kept your stock parts, you should throw those backon and sell the aftermarket parts individually. What did you put on your car?

Sounds like you bought a piece of crap from someone who beat the **** out of the car. Sorry for you. I know people with 1gs and 2gs and no one I know have had any problems with them other then ordinary maintenance.

kevo1123: youre exactly right! when it rains, it sure as hell pours. it seems to be a non-stop process of fixing things. its to the point now where i look at my car and i wanna kick a kitten. definately lookin to get out of the neon.

LowSlowNeon: i bought it from a dealer. when i got it, everything seemed to be in check, but its the little things that keep comin up and these little things are costly as hell. im just gonna go with the fact that neons werent made very well. i know TONS of people who have had lots pf problems with theirs, especially the brakes and tranny. so, whether or not someone beat it to death, its still pissin me off because of how the car is. my best friend has a 2nd gen and it seems his is in all the time also. i just think that when the car was manufactured dodge ****ed up....

Lol. Well i don't agree with your opinion of them. But I know what you mean about money pits. My first car was like that, it was constantly broken. Soon as I fixed it, it would break again. It was a chevy though.....

I've only had mine for a few months so I hope nothing happens to mine....nothing so far and I am growing to love it more and more so I REALLY hope nothing happens to it. My friends who talk crap on Neons have driven mine and then say how fun it is to drive....sometimes I think it's the cool sound of the intake but it's a fun car no matter what I say!

Any small car that has the hell beat out of it is going to have problems no matter the make. Our 02 Neon has been trouble free needing only oil changes, tires and plugs. It's my wifes daily transportation but I'll drive it on weekends let's say in "sport" mode and it is a good runner. I don't drive it trying to get V/8 performance out of it though and that is alot of the problem (other than lack of maintenance)in my humble opinion as to why people have many problems with small cars. Remember it's a 4 cylinder.

My only problems so far has been my mortor mounts and my big wreck in my 01. I've had it for a little over three years.

I would like to add to this thread the fact that the NEON is the CHEAPEST car DODGE sells....I love my neon....If I were to have problems I would understand...the car is dirt cheap...But I dont have any problems...I do my own maintainence so nobody messes up my car and I never NEVER have problems...Ive known some awful mechanics out there that will break stuff purposely so you will coming back to visit them...just remember CHEAPEST CAR...OH and if you get a srt-4 which are still cheap...as far as im concerned thats the MOST bang for your buck you can ever get.
