I agree; universal is not good.
I've heard of some research that was done on supercharging a Neon and they said it wouldn't be cost effective and a turbo is just better for our cars. They've tried to develop it and they said it wasn't worth it.

Sounds like this is a very mystical topic, supercharging a neon.
I would like to stay away from universal stuff but supercharging is just so much cheaper.
Do any of you guys know what parts I would need If I was going to build my own s/c kit?

superchargers are found on bigger displacement engines for a reason. a supercharger loses its efficiency at high rpm's, where v-8 power bands fall off anyway... for us, turbochargers are much more practical because we aregoing toget the optimum from our engines with the peak power happening close to the rpm ofour stock power band (around 6000 rpm). we choose a turbo that is most efficient near this power band for optimum performance.

a supercharger is unpractical because it is a monster of a mechanical device. it uses so much mechanical energy to spin it at high rpm's that it actually takes away a considerable abount of power from your engine while its trying to produce it. it does this because there are alot of moving parts in a blower that contribute tolosses due to friction and also to a largerrotating mass.

Like spikey said, your best bet if your aiming for cheap is an srt-4 turbo setup.8psi on a turbo for our cars is much more efficient than 8psi from a supercharger.

with a new manifold will an srt-4 turbo alone work? Or is it better to get the full engine?

actually, there is a supercharger that will fit a neon, im looking to switch to it. im tired of my turbo......eaton makes a supercharger for a neon......

you can get the entire SC kit for around 2k and if its installed and tuned rigth you can put more than 6-8 psi as long as your car is built to handle it......the salesman i talked to showed me a chart, and you can gain 50-75% hp to your wheels....

so, the way i see it is that yes, there is a way to supercharge a neon...and it isnt totally custom and you wont be the only one in the world with it.......

good call.
Ok, first of all, there is NO S/C kit for the 2.0 Neon. Eaton makes S/C that will work (M62), but you still need a lot of custom fabbing. This topic has been widely discussed on many forums and its much more complex to S/C your Neon then it is to turbo your Neon. A turbo will make more power for the money then the M62 anyways on a 2.0 Neon, built motor or not.

Currently, there are a few twin charged SRT-4's and one 1st Gen Neon that is supercharged and making something like 170whp and he had to do A LOT of custom work. Theres a 17 page thread on the other .ORG detailing this...The original 2002 Dodge Neon SRT-4 concept with the 2.0 engine WAS supercharged and made around 200HP, but no one has ever seen the plans or what they used to accomplish this. Guess why they went with the turbo...it was CHEAPER and made more power, do you think it will be any different for us? The simple fact is, if you want to make power with the 2.0 you TURBOCHARGE.

OkI got another question for you guys. The hahn stage 2 turbo kit can supposedly make 275hp at around 8 psi, but what would that be at the wheels?

And, since you have proved extremely reliable in the past 03neonRT I have a challenge for you, if you wish to accept it...(it would probably be the biggest favor you have ever done for me, possibly for anyone, just because it is quite time consuming.)

You have told me about all the parts I will need if I wanted to build my own turbo kit, but mixing my sheer laziness (lol) and limited turbo knowledge I am questioning my ability to find all this stuff myself and make sure I get the right stuff. Therefore 03 RT can you get me a list of specific parts that could make up a turbo kit. Just to clarify I technically want youto to gather my parts for me if you can. Specific Turbo, Specific intercooler, specific BOV, specific waste gate, everything. No need to hurray! I know that this might take a while and I wouldn't want to rush you if you do it! (keep in mind though that my budget is AT MOST $3,000)

The Hahn will not make 275hp at only 8psi...your looking at closer to 12-14psi for those kind of numbers. But 275HP is roughly 230whp. As for your challenge, I can put together a very detailed list for you...

yes, yes he is...
And thank you 03neonRT!!!
Your help is greatly appreciated.
I think that a 16G turbo is good size, but of course bigger is better if you can find it cheap. (Stupid Budget)

I think this makes 03neonRT the best moderator. Is there any objections? I hope not.
