The tires on it are 315/75R16 just little 35's, It would fit 37's as is but that's just not enough so 39.5's are in the works over the summer along with a little more lift. Thanks glad you like it.

Ah, gotcha. I know the feeling, the interior of my 76 is the stock goldish/tan with green dash and door panels.

Yes, Dana 60 front and 70 rear, 5.87 gears some flavor of lockers, but not till next winter for this stuff. So yes the Dana 44 and 9.25 will see some road time with the 39.5 tires, just gona have to be nice to it that's all.

Ok done deal.

You've got 4.56's right now right? I don't think it would be TOO bad with those gears. Just the rest of the front end components.

I gotta say I think 5.87s are way too much gear for 40's as well. I would say 5.13's at the lowest. 4.88's and 40's are within like 30 rpm of stock rpm range.

Yep 4.56 right now. Just because I can do it myself I am going to put in 4.88 just before the tires go on, it will help a little bit. We will see how the moog stuff and hub bearings do. The truck will be parked for next winter so maybe three months at best with the big tires on it. No more winters for this truck if I can help it.

Gears are ez work for me and they aren't that much coin so I will start where I start and go from there. 5.38 are my pick but have not yet found them for the 70 yet, if you see them post a link please.

yeah, there are no 5.38s for the D70 and haven't been for years. Sorry man. But maybe you'll get lucky.

An automatic (assuming you keep that along with the np231) can tolerate taller gear ratio compared to the manual. With 5.86....I hope you thoughts already for the tcase and brakes upgraded by then. Your gas consumption will certainly diminish, but that isn't really a concern since you're not planning DD with it.

Are you getting true 39.5s? I ask as not all tires run true size. Only 1 company, maybe 2 actually does and that is the Gyear MTR/K and the Toyo M/Ts. BFG run small. Pit Bull actually runs a tad over.

Don't put your 39.5s to a flex test as those new flares will be for breakfast. Here are 40" Toyo M/Ts. Notice the wheel well finish? This was 6 months ago. They needed more "finishing".

Mpg is is no longer in play. Tires and more tires, to be honest what brand is still in the air, its down to Michelin Xml's 325 85 R16 (I just found a new set of these tonight), Toyo M/T or Iroc.
