Inner shaft has a stub that goes inside the outer shaft, and there's a bushing that wears out. So you need at least that bushing to the end of outer axle shaft (QU40107 from Quad4x4) and maybe a support bearing for the inner shaft (QU40292).

So I finally put a real load on my new suspension. 10-80# bags of cement = 800#. All my tools = 300#. 125g water + the tank it's in = 1200#. And with at least 2200#, the bed didn't squat enough to cover the top of the back tires-probably 2" of squat, and that was with the water tank(it's 4'x4') sitting about 6" on the tailgate, so all of it's weight was behind the axle. The airbags and leaf helpers was the best thing I've done to the truck. I can haul anything.

the idiot that was supposed to buy the axles removed the carrier out of the d70, so now i have to figure it out, or bring it to a transmission shop for them to do it. i tried to get the carrier back in, but it wouldnt go.
anyway, theyre a d60/d70 out of a '96 diesel. the d60 is going in first, but i gotta get new wheel bearings for it, because i want slide on rotors not press on, and the wheel bearings from a 2001 will bolt right up. the unfortunate part is that they have 3.55 gears, but they will get changed later on down the road..
oh, and price....... both those axles, 2 8 lug rims(with matching tires with more than 50% tread) and a set of diesel springs for my buddies 99 1500 sport..... 300 bucks!
