Mine was $3447.90, delivered to Las Vegas, NV, including the billet converter, Derale pan, internal filter extension, remote filter, and a can of flush for the radiator and cooler. Oh, and a free t-shirt AND a free temperature gauge that I'll likely never use because most of its sweep is in the "holy crap I just smoked off my transmission" range.

Ideally, the pan was never pulled and the contents can be inspected. If this is the case, the bottom of the pan looks good, and it comes with a billet converter, I'd jump it at $2500 or below. Above that, he'd better have a fine old lady who'll visit your house twice a week for the next two years as a tension relief specialist.
If it comes with a lesser converter, $2100 or less. No converter at all? $1800 tops. That's how I'd look at the deal, anyway.
If he scrubbed the pan clean, I'd just walk. When looking over a used transmission, a squeaky clean, dry pan is always enough to send me back out the door. I mean, sure, it's fun burning down a guy's garage, but there's no sense going looking for someone who deserves it. I'd take the drive and not even warn the dude that I want to drop the pan -- if he's the disreputable sort he'll drain a pint from his old lady's SUV to pour in there. I've known guys like that whose favorite line is "As-is means AS-IS".
I'd also show up with clean cardboard to put on the floor so I could stand the thing on the converter housing to see what (little) runs out of the pump, then on the tailshaft (if the transfer case is off) to see what (more) comes out there. It's easy enough to dump some cleanish old fluid into the pan, but it's not so easy to get it into the internals once the unit is taken out of service.
Heck, if I could get a nice price I'd offer to help the guy pull it. Do that and you can see what drains out of the converter, even if he's already got the pan empty. As hard and fast as a Mega Viper's clutches are mashed together you should expect to see less friction material than would come from a stocker with similar miles behind it. These things are just hell for strong, so if the fluid's looking good it's a safe enough bet that the unit is good, too.

Thats good advice. I talked to him and he is pulling it out tonight. He wanted his temp sensor from it which ment it got drained. He said that everything smelt fine and was clean. I asked him to save the bucket of fluid for me to look at myself. I will check it out and tip it like you suggested to see if everything looks like he says. Maybe even pull the pan off and have a look inside.

It's newer than mine! And if it's around 8,000 miles, lower mileage too.
Oh yeah: Find out which shift kit setting it's got. Anything more than heavy duty is ungood for a 4WD pickup, would make for crappy traction on slick pavement or dirt roads and just pound the hell out of u-joints and ring/pinion gears. PATC would know if it's possible to dial back if need be. I have to be careful on packed snow and washboard roads that the 1-2 shift doesn't get the truck crossed up.
