The Official 2nd Gen RAM Forum OT thread
so apparently Nissan's new Titan light duty pickup is gonna be walking all over the ram 1500's in a couple years...
the poor Hemi and Mercedes diesels on the new rams will be given a run for their money against the 2015/2016 Titans new power plant...
an optional 5.0L V8 Cummins turbo diesel will be available for the Titan starting in either 2015 or 2016. (yes Cummins makes more than just inline engines)
It's not a rumor. Nissan's president officially announced the deal with Cummins to power the new Titan with a Cummins turbo diesel engine.
Too bad dodge didn't get with the program and go for a baby Cummins in the light duty rams and jeeps...Guess they snooze they loose. They will still have the 6.7L in the heavy duty pickups though.
Guess that means Nissan is going part-domestic?! Cummins is an american company even though most manufacturing is done out of country, just like most domestic cars lol.

of course they will have to update it!
lets see...
dodge ram v8: what rear end?! tiny dana 60..
dodge ram + cummins: what rear end?! Dana 80!
dodge ram transmissions with v8? buncha light duty crap.
dodge ram transmissions with cummins? HD transfer cases and HD transmissions.
hell dodge now has an extremely strong and built stock automatic for the first time ever because of the stock power of the 6.7L cummins. 385hp 850tq = 48RFE and the 350hp 700tq = aisin trans
believe me they will build the titan stronger to compensate for the raw power of a turbo diesel.
Cummins makes v8's?? That I did not know! Interested to see how Toyota will respond, soon to be the only brand of pick up with out an HD version or turbo diesel... Really interested in seeing this new cummins powered titan!
^I don't buy nissans because there aren't ANY dealers around here and I don't have all their special crap to work on them.
I'd make a wild guess that the Titan will use the CVT transmission as well.

they make a few gasoline engines as well, but diesel is their specialty.
they make small to large 4 bangers, v6's and v8's. inline 6's from small to massive in size. V12's v16's, etc..
here's one of their newer engines to show their range...
Cummins QSK95 is a 16 cylinder 95 liter single stage quad turbo diesel engine (notice no decimal point...its HUGE) 4,000hp, 17,700tq diesel..
they use those to power the ultra-class mining trucks, locomotives, off shore drills, large marine vessels, 3.5MW generators, etc...

yeah, cummins has been around for a LONG time... since 1919 I think...
they were the first company to offer a 100,000 mile warranty on their engines way back in 1940.
They have been in the game a LONG time. Most of their engines are designed for equipment purposes though. dodges 5.9L cummins was originally a heavy equipment engine that was re-purposed and re-tuned for over the road use in small "HD" trucks. (more commonly found in larger heavy duty trucks like F650's motorhomes, large boats, large gensets, loaders, excavators, dozers, etc...
