2001 Dashboard Cracks
I just seen this forum and YES I'm also in VA with the same damn cracked dash. Mine is a 01 with 110,000 miles now but never had a problem with it except this damn dash. Let me know if you do anything for the VA area Ill support it.

I am also not happy with the dash in my 2001 Dodge Ram, out of know where I have cracks showing up everywhere. Truck looks great except for these cracks. Anyone have any luck with getting it fixed. I to do not want to use a das cover![:@]
I see that I am not alone. My 2001 Ram 1500, made in Mexico ( I guess the 2001's made in Mexico have a higher percentage of cracking), out of no where started cracking last year. There is no excuse for this. It shouldn't matter what part of the states you live in or whether or not you use or don't use armor all on your dash, the cracking is unacceptable and Daimier/Chrysler should step up and rectify their problem! I ended up doing the unthinkable and getting a dash mat. No more Daimier/Chrysler products for me...
I knew I should have just fiberglassed that top piece.. My dad talked me into getting the new top for my 98. If I had known it was that common, I wouldn't have wasted the $300 and 3-5 hours of installation. I figured it had cracked because of the 230k miles..., but then again both drink holders have broken as well.
Anyone actually had it fiberglassed? I thought about trying to find a shop to do it. Any ideas on what it would cost and how it would hold up? I'd think it would look sweet but what about price? If it's $600-700 it might be worth it as thats the cost of 2 dash's which you will probably have to replace 2 times if you keep the truck a long time. If it costs $2000 it probably wouldn't be worthwhile.
Well, I have no idea how much a shop would charge you. It depends on how you want it fiberglassed. I figured Id just sand the top down smooth, glasss it all back together (mine was in three pieces), sand the rest of the dash, prime it, then paint it flat black.
I still wish we could do something about this..... Mine's missing a huge chunk, and is cracking up pretty good too. No sense in replacing it now though since I hear guy's replacing there heater core. I'll wait till my heatercoregoes if I have a dash left, then replace.
Here's what my 2000 looks like AFTER being "FIXED" by the dealership (Caruso Dodge) here in Jacksonville, Florida. I should have known something was up when they called to tell me they were finished with it after only a half a day.
When I got there I immediately noticed that the new upper cover was much darker than the original lower parts. The upper is scratched up on both sides, is missing the soft rubber fillers at the a-pillars.....a-pillars, heck one of the plastic covers is now cracked as well. Way to go guys.
I had them leave the new instrument bezel off so I could re-install my stereo. Good thing I did because I immediately noticed that the entire lower half of the dashboard had not been replaced as was stated (and charged to corporate) on the receipt. The tech they had working on this thing barely had basic motor skills as the manager asked him about all the issues.
My air bag switch has since fallen into the dashboard. My headlight switch and A/C panel are hanging on by 2 screws each, and I little parts of dash continue to fall to the ground.
I have been working with the dealership since September 2007. They know they need to replace the upper dash, the lower dash, the cracked a-pillar cover and the instrument bezel, but the ETA for the parts is unknown at this point.
I'll never touch a Dodge again.
