Its almost as bad as the K&N FIPK recall where the intake hat would crack and jamb up the throttle body.

Has any had trouble with the cone style filters or just the drop ins? I just removed my stock box and kn filter and installed a cone style spectra on the end of my stock tube. Made a huge difference really like it but kinda worried now

Was the old filter plugged up? Shouldn't have made any difference at all otherwise.

Bad? nope. You are just drawing underhood air, which will be warmer (by a minor bit) than drawing air from the stock location.... Just keep it clean.

I had a specter cone filter on my 97 Z71 and the filter was fine. It was the black rubber shoulder that held the filter just rotted away. Found pieces of it in the mass air sensor. I put the paper one back on the end of the chrome pipe.
