tow strap location
i have been using a tow strap to get people unstuck with but i just want to know what yalls opinion on where i put it on mine. i got one with no hooks because i have seen ugly things when one snaps or whatever and it has hooks. but it does have loops on the ends. i put one loop through my hitch like i would a ball and attach it with the pin you would use to hold the ball in place. i figured if you can pull 7500 pounds you can use it like that right? and i don't jerk people out hard just try to ease em out. oh and my uncle told me an old trick of putting a chain across the tow rope in two locations and it won't snap back and kill someone or break a window or whatever. three cheers for uncles that have been there and done that huh? lol but yeah what yall think about where i hook the strap to?
What you are doing with the strap is perfect. You are correct in that if it will pull a heavy trailer, it won't have any trouble pulling someone out of the ditch either. Good plan with the chain as well, I just generally toss a heavy coat, or blanket over the strap, so, if it does break, it doesn't get far. Either method accomplishes the goal.
That's how I've always hooked up recovery straps, and have never had a problem.
Something else I do: I use lift straps (like recovery straps, but just 6' long) to connect to the stuck vehicle, rather than the recovery strap itself. Generally, I'll hang one strap on each frame rail of the stuck vehicle, and a third between the two, with the loop of the recovery strap on the third so it can move side-to-side along the length of the third strap. That way an off-angle pull doesn't put all of the load on just one frame rail of the stuck vehicle, and my recovery strap doesn't get torn up on any sharp edges.

I dont even do that much I just take the strap or rope and put the loop around the ball never had any come off yet, dont pull alot of people out of holes though mostly tow them back home, I and also let the owner of the vehicle strap their side to wherever they want on their vehicle all I do is watch so I know I wont have parts flinging back at my truck
