Dodge Ram Fuel Saver
I have hit a 'best' of 18mpg on long trips already, and that was with a blown plenum. (very badly blown at that...... maybe the oil was giving me an octane boost......
) That was two lane driving at 55 to 60 for extended periods of time, with almost no in-town driving..... I really don't expect to be able to do that every day, but, it makes me a bit less reluctant to consider the truck for long trips..... (more comfy than the van....)
I don't see myself being able to eliminate much weight either.... there already is no spare tire, and I NEED all of my seats on a regular basis. (part of the reason for buying the truck was it is able to seat six relatively comfortably.....) I love my A/C, so that's not going....... not sure what else there would be to remove....
No way am I going to spend the mony on the front hub conversion, unless I can find a way to do it a LOT cheaper.... Come spring/summer, I am going to go exploring for D60's under chevy/fords, and see if I can come up with a reasonable alternative. I like the idea of rebuildable, greaseable, wheel bearings. (but, I will more than likey stick with the CAD system as I LIKE shift on the fly.)
Probably, the best thing you can do for your fuel economy, is keep up on the maintenance...... I knew when I bought the truck that 'fuel economy' was a mis-nomer for it...... Its a truck. I had a car that got 34 MPG on a regular basis.... the truck is for an entirely different purpose. (yeah, right up until the mechanics shop screwed up my motor, and it blew up. ooops.)

that makes me want to put electric fans on my 5.2l engines and hope i can get it up to 20-27MPG

Check out EMS offroad on ebay for the free spin kits and I believe that they have a set for Dana 44's. Dana 60's are easier to convert as the axle design did not change as much over the years. A woman on Pirate 4x4 converted her D60 over to manual hubs by using junkyard parts.
beside no talk of the death flash or pluemn gasket,,,, i call B.S on there number,, not on what they are doing, what they are doing will help with mpgs but not like that,,,
take i form a me, a guy with coming up on having my truck for 4 years that has had mpgs 8-18.1 miles per gallon,, and have tested e-fan and under drive pullys, stock box intake, 14x3, cold air intake,,, and driving with the a'c on and windows up and no a;c and windows down

The 1500 series Dodge goes from an 8 mpg guzzler, to a respectable 16 mpg daily driver, weekend wheeler. And along the way, upgrades are done to make this a more than capable trail truck, including Dana 60's, 37's, and a posi-lock cable for front axle.
