Well actually I thought of it myself! LOL If you or someone else has done that also that's cool. I've seen some guys here do the ash tray and cup holder. I originally bought that gauge, a vac and A/F gauge(narrow band) along with a 3 gauge pillar pod for the 98 silver ram. Since then, I decided I could care less about the other gauges. I didn't like how the single for the top of the steering column looked, so I put it there.
Oh! and BTW, I like the wood too(i'm a carpenter), just not the same kind of WOOD VWandDodge likes! LOL
Wow purpl, that looks really good. What did you use for the backing plate for the gauge?
A piece of scrap aluminum sheetmetal. I used the cubby as the template and cut the cubby for the bezel. Scratched (for the brushed look! ) with 600 grit sandpaper. I'd like to take it out and polish the hell out of it though.

Polish it, then hit it with some clearcoat. That way, when the sun is just right, it can blind you.
I would be more tempted to hit it with some flat black, so it matches the rest of the dash...... but that's just me.
That's pretty much what I did. Except I painted the back plate green like the truck, and used the angled mount the gauge came with to aim it towards the driver.
