Default Mirror upgrade for my truck

I hated the look of the chrome mirrors on my 97 so i decided to buy some 98-01 mirrors off a dodge ram. The adapter for the power mirror switch was different on the black mirrors so i had to do some clipping of the wires to get them to work.

I think it looks night and day better with the black mirrors. Not bad for just $25 and some electrical tape.

Nice lookin' truck, can we get a better pic of the mirrors? and what you had to do to get them mounted and working? How about a DIY?

Well, unfortunately someone might be buying my truck tomorrow. I posted it for sale for $5500 on craigslist just for kicks and giggles because I would like to upgrade. It just has 89k miles for a 1997. I know if I sell i'm gonna miss this truck. First truck i ever bought. Anyways...

I did this upgrade earlier in the summer, but just got around to posting pics of it. I did not take any pics during the installation but here is a little write up...

You need to take the door panels off...there is one screw near the power control switch for the mirrors, two screws one the door handle, and then you need to use a screw driver and carefully pop out the door fasteners. After you have the panel off you need to unbolt the old mirror and bolt in the 98-01 mirror. Don't tighten the bolts too tight because they can strip.

In order for the 98-01 mirrors to function correctly with the factory switch for the 94-97's you need to wire together the white wire on mirror and the yellow/black on truck. Blue on mirror to white on truck. And yellow on mirror to purple on truck.

After that just install in reverse order. Very easy to do and i think it makes the truck look much better.

I forgot to add that the 98-01 mirrors bolt right up too.

The mirrors.....

Mirror control switch, switches for mirror heat.

Wiring harnesses for both options. You may already have the wiring harnesses, look up under the dash, and see.
