Default Herculiner on bottom half of truck?

Has only one put herculiner on the bottom part of the truck where the molding is on the side going down? My truck is two tone black with gray bottom and Im wanting to herculiner the gray part so it dont get rusty. I do alot of gravel driving to work and dont want the salt this winter to eat it up. Also has anyone removed that molding and left it off. Any info would be great. Thanks

I am doing this right now on mw 1999 Ram 1500 4x4 quad cab........I had to sand/wire wheel/chisel about 1/2 of everything below the rocker panels and inside the jams and just rough up the rest......nothing was all the way through and I had a solid base everywhere except where I had a real nice surprise when I took off the driver side fender flares and there was nothing there......passenger side had no damage......took the doors off and did it right.....took my time and just did one section at a time when I could......very slow process unless you put in 16 hours a day......
It was just a matter of time......as you all know, the more rust the faster it spreads......
I bought my truck new and I think my problems started when I put on a 3 inch body lift and 315/75/16 tires 2-3 years after I bought it and the gravel started chewing up my door panel. Should have got the fender flares and larger mud guards right away but I put it off. Anyway, just a little tid-bit of info. for those that may not know.

have you guys removed the molding that seperates the two tone? I got black molding down the side right below it is the 2 tone and Ive thought about pulling it off and leaving it off.

The PO did this to mine, and I like it a lot. However, he didn't put enough coats on and he didn't scrape/sand the rusty spots, so it needs to be removed and re-done.

I removed mine, looks better to me anyway. Also sprayed the whole truck, (with line-x though) got tired of scratches on tight trails. It has held up extremely well. Even after 5 years, it will look brand new with some tire cleaner.

Looks awesome!! I think years from now we'll have a truck with a near perfect body that might need a new tranny and/or engine! ;-)
