Did some testing on a Open Diff
I was curious to know if braking while spinning with an Open Diff would have any effect, so I put the truck through some test's that would cause the rear to spin and get stuck. If you "pump" the brake pedal while spinning (with a steady amount of acceleration, don't floor it) it will help get the tire with traction turning so you can get unstuck.
I'm not saying this will get you out of a mud hole or up the side of a rock or mountain, but most people know how incredibly easy it is to get a truck with an open diff stuck, so this can be rather useful if applied correctly.
Works forwards or backwards.
EDIT:
The added ground clearance of the larger wheels/tires is really useful since the stock 4x2's are pretty low.

i think you wanted a reason to go somewhere and spin your tires tehehehehe jk.. Ive heard of alot of guys using that method in jeeps before and i wasnt sure if it would be the same with a full size pickup. Good info
Yep yep. Works good. With an open diff, the tire with the least traction, gets the power. (path of least resistance and all that.) Stepping on the brakes sorta equalizes the resistance, so, it transfers some power to the other wheel. Its a trick older than I am.
I'm wanting to get a locker too. Found a Detroit Locker from SummitRacing for just over $600.
