Default The "Search" on this forum...

Am I the only one who thinks its lacking? I see alot of members who evidently have alot of time on their hands to 'gnaw' on someone who asks a question that has been answered ad nauseum....

That being said...the search feature on this board is not very good...It turns up things for a car which is not, nor may not be, specific for our trucks..

I have used this board to research and learned alot.. However, when I need to know something NOW, and I search the problem, I may see something on a Van...

Perhaps, the Gurus, could post a sticky of the proper vernacular to use to get a revelent reply to the question posted...

That is unless,...ya just like being jerks...and BTW, I have read over 500+ pages on this forum.

You are right, try putting quotes around what you are searching for next time. And do an advanced search. Hope that helps.

The search function of the forum software (vBulletin) has always sucked. It's nothing to do with DF itself, as every high volume vBulletin site suffers the same ill. The trick is to learn its quirks to narrow your results, then just settle in for some DIY filtering.

This might seem crazy but I've actually seen better search results from this site when your logged off rather then when your logged in. Weird, I know.

Concur with the above.

Also, b/c I also suck at what keywords to use, try various versions of your keywords. I mean change their order. Also in google, posing a question can net some decent results. Lastly, if you don't know the proper term, then that can be a problem too.

ps. not all threads are labeled/titled that have anything to do with the topic at hand....

I agree using advanced search usually always narrows the type of vehicle, because you could just choose 2nd gen ram. And the quotes thing I just learned about a week ago, I hated trying to search something and being told 3 out of the four words were left out of my search because they were too common.

Learn how to search by practicing. It's not that difficult and you have to be willing to take the time to learn.

Are you narrowing the search by "Title" rather than "Entire Posts"?

Are you selecting a specific forum and child forums rather than All Open Forums?

Are you performing a "Tag" search or are you using the "Advanced Search"?

Items to consider when searching:
1) Spelling - either yours or the litany of people here who can't spell
2) Proper Nomenclature - Parking Brake verses e-brake
