Why is Dodge parts so expensive?

Coming from a 96 F250 powerstroke to a 98 ram 1500, I'm not minding the Dodge prices. I just got a water pump on Amazon for $40. I did a pump on my 2000 F350 powerstroke and it was almost 200 bucks for the pump.
Granted, the only dealer only part I've had to buy for the ram has been an oil dipstick for $12. They want about 200 bucks for a fan clutch. lol

I think it's more the fact that chevy engines didn't change the design very much for 50 friggin years, and there were literally millions of them out there. Economies of scale, and all that.

at some point, when I started looking for aftermarket parts I knew this retired man that worked for one of the most popular truck comparison magazines, he told me that there was a high degree of corruption in that area. he said that when the end results in the comparisons where not favorable for the GM company they should made the necessary modifications to keep the big guys happy, if they do that way, few days latter the chairmans can be seen in a top of the line denali or escalade free of charge, if they do not then they should start looking for another job as he did, then he found job in a performance parts development company, guess what, same history, then he bought this aftermarket parts store in bakersfield CA until he gets his retirement(don't know if still there was 10 years ago)
