I am a firm believer that the only chrome that belongs on these trucks is the front grill and rear bumper. Whatever you do I am sure it will look good though

I thought about doing a black roll pan, but since I tow a trailer I was afraid I would ding it up so did not go that route. Before I decide I will probably do som photoshopping and black it out and print it to see what it will look like. Then do 3D modeliong to get a good idea.

Roll pans look good! Especially if you drop it a bit...

So I decided to do a little light work today to work into a three day weekend slowly.

Have a little touch up to do as the result of buffing too hard. Seems that buffing is a little trickier than sanding is laborious. Some before and after shots. Will shoot clear tomorrow.

Front edge of rear door on pass side:

And after:

After:

Behind front pass side wheel before:

And it was getting dark enough I almost missed the shot. The spot is toward the lower part of photo.....

I also have a couple of very small dents that were not noticeable with primer and paint, but became painfully obvious to me after buffing the clear. Damn shiny black......

I will decide whether I will do those based on the result of these spots.

So I shot some clear today on the spots:

And masking paper folded back and made a booboo, but it will sand out:

And now as I am resanding hood to remove very fine sanding scratches, and thinking about all the extra work that 2X1972 is making me think about.....thought I would rough mask to see what it may look like:

If you do decide to do the blue stripes, I will permit you to use a black grill in place of the chrome.

That would be too much black, wouldn't look good. Contrast, damnit! Now a chrome grille with a black brush guard wood look good..

So when the wife sees this, if I do it, you KNOW I am throwing you under the bus in about half a second...."He made me do it!"

I am looking at 1/2" stripe with 1/2 gap then 4" stripe. And di you know that hte tailgate is narrower at the top than the bottom?

On a technical matter - my PPG base is MBP Acrylic Urethane and the clear is 4.2 Polyurethane. Can I use a lacquer based paint over the existing clear and will the poly clear work over the lacquer stripe?

The reason I ask is the only place to get paint before next week is Autozone who sells the Duplicolor, which shows to be lacquer.

Busy week next week with out of town travel again, so won't be able to go to Abilene to get paint if this will not work.

Stewie, I agree that these trucks look great with a chrome grill, but with the blue Mopar stripes it would be too much if it still had a chrome grill. And I disagree about the brushguard, those ALWAYS look stupid, regardless of color (they only look good on a full built aftermarket bumper)

gdstock, feel free to blame me! I told you i'd come over this weekend if you wanted, and you could've gotten that out of the way then

I wonder how those stripes would look on mine in black... Hmmmmmmm
