Magnaflow Questions/Opinions
Alright guys, I think my Christmas present to myself is going to be exhaust. I kind of want to do it myself, due to the saving money aspect, but I need some help/advice.
I want to saw off the part from the Y pipe (I know I should replace that too, but I just can't afford it) to the end of the muffler and replace it with a pipe and a magnaflow muffler. Can I do that with 3 exhaust clamps, the pipe, and the muffler (with the help of a hacksaw)? If so, where do I buy the pipe by itself? Is there something I'm missing? What about the O2 sensor? How do I get that in there?
Additionally, I have narrowed it down to a Magnaflow, due to the deeper, rolling tone instead of the short, loud, glasspack sound, but now I need help in picking which one.

There are tons on here, I just need suggestion for which, oval or round, and length. I'm not really worried about loud (and I don't want it too loud), mostly just the nice rumble.
Also, I'm open to all suggestions if you think there's an easier way to do this, oh and the cheaper the better
Thanks in advance,
Wyo

I know in Ohio you cannot buy pipe longer than 12" (I think) at your neighborhood parts store cuz of people replacing the cat. Summit sells exhaust pipe in lengths though, since your looking at them for the muffler anyway. Other than that, you could try to buy piping at an exhaust shop, dont know if they'd sell it or not though.
I'm planning to have some exhaust work done soon too. I was thinking about going with a CherryBomb Glasspack after watching a few video's on YouTube, but while looking at SummitRacing I noticed MagnaFlow now offer's GlassPacks and it is a few dollars cheaper then the Cherry Bomb.
I wanted to go straight dual exhaust, no cat's, with the magnaflow glass packs, but have read here on DF, mainly from some exhaust talk in the 3rd Gen section by DrewActual and HammerZ71, that running either a X or H pipe is better then straight dual.
I had a '98 Chevy k1500 Vortec V8, no cat, mangaflow oval and long muffler, not sure what series sorry, it was dualled from the muffler back, sounded GREAT.

Ive got the magnaflow glasspack on my truck now and I like it.. Just get some length of pipe off of summit and you can also order the bungs to weld on there for your o2 sensors.. Then just decide on which muffler you want to go with
Alright, so theoretically, I could order the 24 inch oval magnaflow, (sorry ya'll, not a big fan of the glasspack sound, I like a little more smooth), a 4 foot straight pipe, 3 exhaust clamps, and the oxygen sensor bungs and I'd be set?? The only tools I would need would be a hacksaw and some wrenches for the clamp right??
I heard good things about the 24 and I don't want it to be too loud with removing my cat as well. Do you think it will be? That's basically my main concern. Any other repercussions from removing the cat??

It shouldnt be to loud with the cat out.. And as long as it is not needed for emmisons testing in your area you should be fine... Just get the clamps and if you have the option to use air tools on the clamps that would be much easier but you can get them nice and tight with regular old hand tools... Also i would go for a power tool to cut the exhaust.. Work smart not hard lol
check youtube for soundclips.... many there say the truck get MUCH louder without the cat so keep that in mind.
also I can concur a true dual exhaust will not perform as well as an x pipe system. I've seen a lot of data on this from corvette and vw forums.

i was also thinking about doing the exhaust on my truck. 97 ram 1500 with the 5.2. i was thinking about just cutting out the muffler and straight piping it. how do you think this would sound? I'll probably be keeping the stock 90 out behind the RR tire
When ever I finally get around to putting an Exhaust system on my truck, I'm going to go with Magnaflow too, love the low rumble, the only system I like better is the AeroTurbine, but their website is no longer up, unless it's been changed, I can't find it.
On another note, would it be better to just replace my muffler and not delete the cat? Then i'd be stuck with the 2.5" in the middle and not 3" all through. I really would not like to be the guy with the as***le truck driving around town. Just want the simple, low rumble.
