49 hours without a cigarette
I've tried cold turkey a few times but couldn't take it.
What kind of e-cig were you using in that picture of you laid up in the hospital?
As of right now I still don't want a cigarette. I even took the ashtray out of the cup holder in my truck so now I can close it. I always thought the ashtray in our trucks was a monster and not suitable for butts but great for cell phone storage.

I think my stance on quitting is a little different. Talking about it is motivational to me, especially since I still don't want one and it's been more than twice as long as every cold turkey try. Every time I just put them down I wanted one within an hour but now I have the e-cigs to fill the void of not inhaling anything and I get the nicotine to keep me sane.
As far as cost goes, if you get the pre-filled cartridges or tanks then yes it will cost quite a bit in no time but if you get good atomizers or cartomizers and fill them with your own nicotine juice it adds up to about a buck or a buck and a half a day after the initial cost of the unit itself. I'm on another forum e-cigarette-forum.com and they have a lot of vendors with good prices and a heck of a lot of info on which flavors are garbage and which ones you should shy away from along with which models are worth the money and which ones are junk (any you find in a gas station or a smoke shop).
I'm using juice with 24mg of nicotine right now and within a year I hope to be down to 12mg or so then eventually none but even if I don't then it won't be the end of the world.

Our stance does differ, nothing wrong with that.
My feeling is , to get the nic out of the system as fast as possible, not replacing it with a patch for instance that just prolongs the process. As far as the e cigs go, they also prolong the habit breaking part of it (which in my opinion is the hardest part) , but different things work for different people, if it's working for you stay with it, and I really do hope you quit this nasty habit we have. Well one of them anyway.
On a side note, too bad you didn't post a thread before you started. I would have been up for some kind of challenge. Kinda like that episode of Seinfeld to see who could last the longest without "it". LOL

The only reason I didn't post a thread first was every time I've tried to set a date or a time or "as soon as this pack is gone" I've failed. I didn't tell anyone this time until a day and a half after that last one.
The smell of smoke or seeing someone smoking one isn't making me want one. The times I've tried before I would get to really wanting one if I saw it or smelled it. I actually used to light one up if I saw one on tv or smelled one. Thinking about what it feels like to hit a cigarette just isn't appealing to me any more. I never thought I would say/think that. 66 Hours now and I still don't think they smell terrible like others I've know that have quit. I don't think they smell pleasant but I wouldn't say they smell revolting.

My uncle quit for several years, then started up again. The way he did it was he bought a pack and kept it with him, saying he "didnt quit, just not having one".
Me on the other hand, I quit about 20-30 times a day. Finish one and quit till the next.
Anyway, wish you luck.

Good luck man , I've been quited . Once you get that energy and being able to breathe and run and lift weight it easy .
I hate the smell of cigs now . And plus knowing a lot of people with cancer and watching Tisk battle it sucks .
You can do it bro , start a good habit like lifing weights or plY with your kids more often . Gotta keep yourself busy to not thinly Bout it till the addiction passes

+1, I quit for seven years when we first bought our house. Couldn't stand the smell and the extra energy was amazing. Plus, I "HAD" one kind of cancer(they cut it off) . The last thing I need is to get another type. It's just plain ignorant on my part right now. But the stress of what went on the last 2 to 3 years, and now I'm probably going to lose my house too, is just all so overwhelming. And the smoking helps to cope, along with the beers of course.
I didn't realized there were so many smokers/ex-smokers here! Wish you the best of luck Sheriff, hope it works out for you. I agree with lastrights too, if you stay busy and keep your mind off of it, its alot easier not to smoke. Last time I "quite" lasted about a month, but recently picked it up again.... kind of a rollercoaster ride for me. My best friends and family smoke, so that makes it all the more difficult. But anyway good luck buddy!
Edit: PS zman, I'm sorry to hear about your house, hope everything works out for ya

Good luck to you Sheriff, and all who want to do the same! I personally just have stayed away from tobacco in the first place, but i sure get a lot of second hand in the military...
Zman, I am sorry life's been rough the last few years, I know how that can be. Different scenarios, but I have felt like everything in my life is falling apart many many times in the last couple years, and it's no fun. I'll be prayin' for ya.

Thanks for the support. It hasn't been near as hard as I thought it would be. I think one of the most important factors in helping me quit was not smoking in the house for the last half a year. Going outside when it's cold or raining wasn't fun but It seemed worth it at the time.
That sucks about the house zman, I thought you got those problems ironed out.
