Marlboro Reds are still about $4.50-5 a pack. The Special Blends are $3.50 a pack.

i wasn't going to get on the soapbox, but i can't help it.

I think cigarettes are the most addictive things in the world. more addictive than alcohol, drugs, gambling, hookers and blow. anything. they're relatively cheap (or were), quick, easy, satisfying. they don't immediately cause you to die, or kill someone else, or lose your job, or family. its socially acceptable (or was). everybody does it. your parents smoked. its on TV (or was). its just light one up and feel good.

because of this - quitting smoking will be the hardest thing you ever do in your whole life.

and because of that - you can't quit until you really want to quit, and are willing to endure the short term misery that's associated with it, and have the long term commitment to stick with it.

i've seen hundreds of people quit smoking. some last a week, some two weeks. some last a year and then start back. some go two or three years and then fall back into it, usually over something stupid like - i think i'll have one of those fine cigars.... or worse - i gained some weight and went back to smoking so i could lose it.

smoking is truly hazardous to your health. i urge everyone to look for the strength to quit. as you all know, its not easy - otherwise everyone would quit and stay quit.

my father died from lung cancer at age 52 and never enjoyed his grandchildren. that's where my strength comes from, and i was fortunate to quit while still young.

my smoking friends are dropping left and right in their late 50's and early 60's from various smoking related health problems. and dipping is just as bad. my wife's a dental hygenist and see's the effects of dipping.

all you young bucks are saying - aw, i'm still young and its not hurting me and i'll quit one of these days before i get old. do it now. it won't get any easier, it'll only get harder.

hang in there sheriff. i'm pulling for you.
i'm pulling for all the rest of you too. find the strength and take up the challenge.

climbs off soapbox.

I think kids who have parents that smoke are more likely to start than kids with non-smoker parents. I started smoking when I was 11 and that was whenever I could sneak a couple out of one of my parents packs or when a friend of mine could snag a couple from his mom. Then in high school I had a friend that would get me a carton a week, it was good to have friends that were seniors when you were a freshman that smoked.

About the weight gain deal, my mom made it a month or two before she started smoking again because she blames her weight gain on not smoking instead of the lack of physical activity.

As for me, I still don't want one. I do get urges to hit the e-cig though.
I still sit in the smoking break room at work and the smell doesn't make me want one.

keep it up....ive tried to quit to no avail...when my daughter was born, i quit cold turkey for a month...no one drag for a month...thats when the cravings got REALLY bad for me, and i was getting very irritable, and angry all the time, then at work i was having a bad day, and someone offered me a smoke and i took it...it calmed me right down, but it also started my habit again....

i dont smoke in my house which cuts me back a bit because its cold out and i dont feel like smoking out in the cold, and i cant smoke at work, except for my 1/2 lunch break...well i can smoke at work, just dont get caught...but smoking isnt worth losing a 55K+ a year job, so that makes me cut down some...i use to smoke over a pack a day, now i smoke 10-15 a day...and seeing threads like this give me motavation to quit again, becuase i dont like the feeling of quitting alone...sounds weird but true.

I know the e-cig is helping me quite a bit. There have been a couple times I got a hint of a desire to smoke one, then out came the e-cig and that slight desire was gone. I just can't believe I'm not going nuts wanting one like the cold turkey tries.
It felt really weird earlier when I stopped at a gas station to get a 12 pack of soda and didn't buy a pack of cigarettes.

My dad did the roll your own deal for a while and he really liked the Bugler tobacco. We've always smoked Marlboro Reds too. He had one of these and I thought it was the coolest thing ever http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gFtSvw8CV8
