what gun/rifle do you have
I've got an old 7.62 x 54 made in Czech in 1943 or 44, can't remember which sitting up in a closet at the farm. Matching numbers but the stock is dried out and cracked. I picked it up from a guy for like $40 about 14 years ago with full intentions of putting a Monte Carlo type synthetic stock on it and sporterizing it for hunting. One of those back burner things I've never gotten around to...
I've got one of those Model 60's myself (from Wally World like the one above, even) and it's my favorite bunny gun. Mine came out of the box with a loose dovetail making the iron sight worthless, but with a scope perched on top it's living up to the model's reputation for accuracy. For a plinker, small game/varmint rifle it'd be hard to beat the 60.

Lol!
I have a 1953 production Russian SKS and it is a hoot. I have a synthetic collapsible stock and several 30 round clips. It's #'s matching down to the gas rod. I sold my 3 AK's and kept the SKS. It is my favorite gun. I have a MN 93/30 with a 1937 build date and a 1947 M44. The M44 kicks like a mule on steroids, but it is compact and light. I have shot at least 3000 rounds through the SKS and never had a single jam. Now when I was charging the first round once, it discharged and shot through my travel trailer. I also only buy Russian rifles because the Czech and Chinese weapons can be disposable when brand new.
I resisted the urge to buy an SKS or AK47 when all my buddies did. But I do like the 7.62x39 for certain applications, it's an especially good heavy brush hog hunting round. In the south Georgia swamps a shot over 30 yards is pretty uncommon and the round is perfectly suited for it.
So I went and bought American and purchased a Ruger Mini-30. I've had such great experiences with both of my Mini-14s, one rigged as an assault weapon and the other is outfitted for varmint (mostly coyote) hunting. I've shot thousands of rounds through them (probably more like ten thousand in my assault Mini-14 (bought it new in 1983) and I honestly can't recall a single FTF with either of them...

Well I did a lot of research on the
sks today, read up on the history and variations, how to clean/dismantle one, and even started making a list of aftermarket parts I want on it. Long story short... Im sure I want one!
Still debating on a shotgun, it's come down to either a remington 870 or a mosseberg 500. Gotta be a 12 gauge!
