what gun/rifle do you have
So I'm going to the saxet gun show next weekend in san Antonio and I'm thinking of buying my first rifle, not sure what I really want yet
I'm thinking of a .22 for everyday shooting and practice, and a 12g for home defense!
For the .22 I've heard ruger is the only way to go and for the shotgun to go with remington.
The problem is I only want to spend maybe $200 on each and not sure what to look for.
Also I live in Texas which has very VERY relaxed gun laws.
I even copied this from Wikipedia
"... Open carry of a long gun is not specifically prohibited as PC 46.02 (unlawful carry of weapons) only mentions handguns, however it may be construed as "Disorderly Conduct"..."
So what do yall own?
Not trying to get anyone in trouble so if your firearm is "illegal" in your state just don't mention it

Haha I have a Remington 700, 30-06, which is completely not relevant to your topic, but figured I'd throw it out there.
Secondly, shotgun wise, I have a Remington 870 Express. I have it in a 20, but they make it in a 12, and for around $300, I love it. Simple, pump action, but still great quality, would be great for home defense.

^^ Check them out for great deals, just have to find an FFL dealer near you.

Thanks to my grandfather and dad I only own a 20 gauge....had it since I was 10
But for going out shooting for a couple hours with friends I use a model 74 Winchester 22lr, it's old but nice, I like the older model 22 a lot more than the new stuff, plus $20 something bucks for 555 rounds you can't beat the price and pretty much anyone can shoot it.
All our guns are in a safe but for home protection either a 12 gauge or handgun will work a pump 12 gauge can be pretty cheap
Used American made guns are the way to go as far as I'm concerned they will last another 50 years and are easy to get parts for.

We justly went to a gun show here and my buddy bought a SKS long rifle. 7.62 rounds with bayonet, for $100. You should have no problem finding a .22 long rifle for abou $150 and a 12 g for around that too. Talk them down a bit!
You can pick up at maverick 12ga pump from walmart for 180 bucks. Theyre made by Mossberg and are a great gun for the money. I hunt with a 1974 model 94 Winchester 3030 that Gpa gave me. I don't know what kind of action you're looking for but I'm a sucker for lever actions. The Henry .22 lever action is an amazing rifle.
+1 for the maverick. I've had one for a few years with No problems. I think I paid 150 for mine. Just throwing this out there but if the old lady will be using the shotgun you may want to consider a 20 gauge. Plenty of stopping power, less recoil, easier to get back on target faster.

Sticking to two brands without prior experience can greatly limit your horizons. If you stick with only remington shotguns, you'll never experience a benelli super black eagle.
The family gunsafe is rather full, but only two of them are actually mine, yet. One is a 1940s K.Kale Turkish mauser 98 in 8mm, with the barrel chopped a few inches, and in an ATI scout stock. Kicks like a mule, hits like a hammer. Trigger pull could probably be measured in tons. I think the total cost of buying it, the gunsmithing, and the stock was around $300.
The second one is my early 1900s carl gustaf swedish mauser 96, in 6.5 x 55. I really like that cartridge. It is super hot, fairly flat, has a massive sectional density, and kicks like a newborn baby. The gun was a great investment too. You could tell the turkish mauser was at some point probably used as a blunt weapon, or a hammer. It was just beat to death, and looked like it was never cleaned. The swedish mauser however looks like any other used civilian gun. It is a two stage trigger, so it has that "odd" step in the middle, but it is very light, even by modern hunting rifle standards. If you can find one cheap, and are looking for an accurate military rifle, get it, unless its been chopped up, as that about kills their value.

I seen another booth that had ex-police 870's, they had a couple scuffs from being in a patrol car but other than that almost new, and if a cop trust his life to one I'm guessing I can too.
I'm not sure about a .22 everyone just tells me they are cheap and so is the ammo, so it is still in the running.
