Default Found 5.2L engine locally on CL

Here is the ad:

http://reading.craigslist.org/pts/2874088240.html

Is it me or is it missing the AC compressor?

I contacted the seller, and she knows it came out of a grand cherokee and has 113K on it, but doesn't not know the year. Looks to be the same as mine just from that pic, which is what it is, a bad pic... lol

She listed it for $250... I asked if she had any play in the asking price and she said a little.

I have been searching for an intake manifold locally at a JY, most yards want $75-100 just for the manifold, no fuel rail/injectors or TB. Would it be worth it just to but the whole damn thing? I then have a "practice motor" to play with for $100-150 more! Or a motor to rebuild, or a spare just incase...

Thoughts/concerns with this purchase?

Never tried to lift a motor onto a truck, do i need a lift? Or 2-3 guys?

Thanks in Advance!

Brad

Alternator and a/c compressor are absent. Not like you really need them in any event.

You want a cherry picker, or something similar to pick up the engine. It is several hundred pounds of cast iron...... Not something I would want to try and just pick up, even with four guys........ You will also want some straps, and an old tire, to secure the motor in the bed. (set the engine ON the tire, and then strap it in place) You REALLY don't want that feller flopping around in the bed...

Sweet, ty for the info, missed the alternator!

Even though the age, parts should still be interchangeable? If I can get her under $200, I'm going to grab it, or at least that is the plan. I have spare tires in the shed to use, good advice on securing motor in bed!

The older intake will have provisions for EGR, which you can just block off, and remove the center divider inside the plenum. It will also have an extra hole for the second temp sensor used on the older motors, which you can also just plug. May have an extra vacuum fitting as well... .but, that is NOT a bad thing.

If you are going to rent something, rent the cherry picker. That hoist is marginal at best. I don't know exactly how much the engine weighs, but, I would really not be surprised to learn it is north of the weight capacity of that one.

you are gonna want more than that 400lb lift. those things arent light. even with 5 guys we struggled pretty good with a 318.

Ok so the lady got back to me for sure on the year, and it came out of a 98 grand Cherokee, with 113k on it, her fiancé filled her in last night when he got home. They dropped the price to $200 AND they have a cherry picker at their house just not assembled, said I can use it to load it up.

I then threw at her the fact that the engine does not have the alternator and ac compressor, and to give me a detailed list of what was removed.

All that said, looking to steal it from them for around $175...

I'll keep ya guys updated! I'm ready to have a 318 I can fiddle with...
