Somewhat of proof... 3/4ths of the way down on this site http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/06...5/s175.80.html

(6) Inspect exhaust system and reject if one or more of the following apply:
(i) The vehicle has no muffler or muffler has external repair.
(ii) There are loose or leaking joints.
(iii) There are holes, cracks or leaking seams in exhaust system.
(iv) There is a muffler cutout or similar device.
(v) Part of the exhaust system passes through the occupant compartment.
(vi) The elements are not securely fastened with proper clamps and hangers.
(vii) The exposed exhaust system does not have adequate heat shield or protective system.
(viii) The exhaust does not discharge to the outside edge of the vehicle body, including a truck bed, or as originally designed.

Doesn't say anywhere that it can't be before the rear axle or a certain distance from the cab. Just have the pipe turn out to the edge of the bed before the tire and it's legal.

Except the original design is behind the rear wheel....

True, I read that part wrong :/

*I think you mean 'isn't behind the rear wheel'

Well if he has it exit to the edge of the body, although not as originally designed, it's still half-legal. And 50% legal rounds up, doesn't it. So it's basically legal? Maybe not...

Maybe depend on whethere the guy KNOWS original sdesign is behind wheels. It would make me want to remove any rearward unused hanger and take to another shop....and argue that's how Dodge designed it....

I don't know how strict the cops are in pittsburgh, but I doubt that would be something worth pulling you over and ticketing you for...

I have never recieved a citation in my '72, which is breaking several laws just driving down the road...

Ok Does that mean that you can't modify your exhaust AT ALL???

I've never had an issue with a side pipe on my truck or anybody else I know. Shops around here will do whatever you ask them to do

I read it only restricting discharge point. No emission testing where I live, so I doubt that anyone would question, but in areas like Houston they look at things much closer. And most cops would not pay any attention - it may just be an inspection issue.

Didn't some 90s ford truck have side exit exhaust from the factory? I know the lightnings did for a fact. So you're legal bud!
