Forget the 1500 and go straight to the 2500.

1500 most likely needed repairs.

Short list, very short.

Rebuilt tranny $1500
R&R intake and fix the plenum $400
Heads $1200

Add $3100 to your purchase price then price out a diesel 2500, you might be surprised and it gets ride of most of the headachs.

Stick shift 2500 mmm...
4.10 gears stock and it sits higher from the factory with the nice bonus not squatting as much when the bed is loaded down.

I wish I could trade mine for a 2500. But only cause I'm lalways pulling 3-8k lbs. I love my truck like the first day I got it, 3 years ago. It has a 318 and auto trans which I had to have rebuilt at 160k but that was from me pullin 12k lbs. when I got my truck I averaged 18mpg on the interstate but it has dropped since I stopped getting ethanol free gas and my plenum is blown. I beat the **** outta my truck to. I love the sound of it to much to stay outta the throttle.

yeah i know that the 2500 would sit higher but it is much harder to get a personal insurance policy and i want something that i can drive comfortably i know the 2500s have solid front axels which makes the ride stiffer

I'd also go with a 2500. I've had both and the 2500 rides about the same as the 1500 did. I use Monroe gas magnum shocks and the ride is nice. And btw, a 1500 4wd also has a solid front axle. Just not as good as one on a 2500.

If you are looking for a 1500 4x4 with independent front end that would put you in the 3rd + gen years.

Default Don't buy from Fast Lane Diesel in Cortland NY

Fast Lane Diesel in Cortland NY- the guy was so dishonest. Ask him a direct question and he will lie. His trucks are not worth what he wants you to pay for them. I bought one, have a list a mile long about things he explicitly lied about. Now there's a few thousand that needs to be done in fixing before the truck is dependable. Apparently he thinks tires are suppose to be bald and there is an imaginary spare. Apparently the u joints are suppose to cause a vibration. Apparently I don't need a working speedometer, or any heat. Apparently fixing the interior with staples and glue means the interior is "Perfect- 100%". Also tried to blame the shipper for stealing the spare. Oh- and he told me for weeks he had the shipping posted at a grand- I finally got tired of waiting and found someone to ship it the next day- they saw his posting for $700- he was going to pocket my shipping fee.
