Yeah, get the aluminum welder out, build those ring lands back up, bit o' machine work, and you'll be golden.

Yep, that's the piston out of the cylinder that dropped the valve seat in my Grand Cherokee. I thought y'all might like to see the pic.

Valve seat exploded and pieces went up into the manifold and over to the other head, so both heads are damaged.

It's MAJOR rebuild time. Can't see not fixing it, the Jeep is in absolute mint condition. I just ordered a complete overhaul kit for $650, heads will be rebuilt for $380. I'm figuring to get away for about $1500 doing most of the work myself...

that don't seem like it is too bad for a rebuild. it sucks that you have to do a rebuild on an engine with so few miles on it.

Kinda pissed that it dropped a valve with only 102k miles on the ticker. Especially considering it's probably never tach'd much over 4000 rpm, never been hotter than 215* and the only off-roading it did was pretty much just mild camping and fishing trips, nothing hardcore.

Well, my truck is now my daily driver for a little while...

This is what the heads look like:

Thats ugly... Atleast you are capable of doing most of the work yourself and not having to fork out the coin to a shop.
