i see a lot of potential here to restore it back to an 1800's look. of course it'd take a boat load of time, money, and energy - but it would be beautiful.

do you have wood or coal burning heaters in those fireplaces?
if you have access to pick up coal for cheap or free, and you have a sturdy and clean enough system to burn some, you can add in a little coal to your wood fire and its like putting nitrous in your car.

BE SURE AND CLEAN THOSE OLD CHIMNEYS. a chimney fire is a killer- literally.

They are wood burning fireplaces. The fireplace in the living room has a monitor stove now. Fireplace in the office has a fireplace insert now.

Fireplace in this room has never been used, would require a GOOD cleaning.

I'm not sure what the access to coal is around here, I'd have to find out.

Around here coal (not purified) shows up on the ground after every good rain... Literally. There used to be coal mines but not so anymore...

Took a few pictures today of the place with all the weeds gone for the season. Still got to get a cow, apparently it's easier to keep large animals, like a cow, fenced in then goats...

The redneck dryer drum fire pit retains heat like nothing else!

^ cut 4 draft holes about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom and it'll do even better. make them about 1-1/2 to 2 inches in diameter.

and a full barrel or half-barrel will let you burn bigger stuff.

nice pics. its an awesome place.
