Default Possibly looking at 76 D200-ADVICE

Yup. I am likely going to go look at a 76 Dodge D200.
Club Cab, 400 V8, auto. Interior looked to be in good shape, body is good, just one rust hole underneath the back rear window. No pictures right now, didn't have my camera with me.

Dual exhaust, likely straightpipe.

So, I want some advice on things to look for as far as engine issues, I am not familiar with big block carbed engines, so I need some help.

nothing really comes to mind. i think the only big thing i read about is parts compatibility between big blocks. apparently they are not all the same so you may want to do a lot of research before buying parts. you should also check whether it is a 2 or 4 barrel. on something that big the right 4 barrel will most likely be way more efficient than than a 2 barrel but since it is a 76 i would gamble that it might have a 2 barrel carb. also did it have a/c. if it did but it no longer works and you don't want to repair it you could use the compressor as a air compressor. those RV2's make great air compressors.

WE NEED PICTURE

A '76 400 will not be a very powerful engine stock, but at least it will get terrible fuel economy too With a good 4 bbl and long tube headers and 2.5-3" duals it would be a low end brute. Compression ratio would be somewhere around the 7.8-8:1 range, so unless you wanna rebuild it don't expect a high rpm motor.

Personally I think the club cabs of that era aren't very attractive, but that's an opinion. I know you said D200, so I will trust that it's a 2wd? What is your plan for the truck? And of course, we need pictures ASAP. Use your phone if you have to!

The 70's 400's didn't have very much horsepower, but they have pretty good torque. We had a 76 Dodge Monaco that was a previous campus cop car and it would easily out-pull our 73 Dodge Tradesman van with a 360. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but wasn't the 400 a modified 383, and not a true big block?

350, 361, 383, and 400 are all Mopar B-series big blocks.

I will check what carb is has when I go see it, which will be next week. It seems to be a pretty nice truck, so I imagine it has a/c. It also has a gooseneck mount in the bed, so it towed trailers for part of it's life.

Yeah, it's a 2WD. W's are 4x4 as you well know. Plan for the truck? Yeah, I'm weird, if the **** hits the fan and we have an EMP, I have transportation if I can get fuel. (don't give me bs, I know the problems already). If everything is fine, I plan on doing like a resto-mod. Even though it's a 3/4 ton and a CC, it would still look cool, me thinks.
I dunno what headers it's got, but it does have duals at 90's out back. Looks to be 2.5's. The guy I talked to said that when he acquired it, he used it to tow some horse trailers and what not, and he said that it pulled really well.
And unfortunately, no pictures ATM...and no phone either. The truck is also about 20 mi away.
