Default Safety before performance Ugh!

Well climbed under my 1500 just now. Looks like 255000 miles haven't been kind to the suspension. Bilstiens on order and moog upper and lower ball joints. Rest of the steering components look serviceable. Hoping the shocks eliminate the rear end bounce when applying brakes. Otherwise looking at a brake job also.

Inspect your rear brakes. Probably worn to a frazzle, and drums are no longer round....

I would not spend that much money on shocks, for a truck with 255K on it. Unless of course the body, and motor are in great condition. Monroe gas magnums would be fine.

I would look first on brakes. Shocks can wait

i would be less worried about the actually brake components and more worried about the actual brake lines. brake lines seem to be the only thing that can leave you up **** creak without a paddle if one was to fail.

as far as shocks go i agree with zman. i put Monroe gas magnums in my ram charger and so far they have been way better than the dead stock ones that were in it. it definitely seemed to take the shaking feeling i was feeling in the back end away.

This going to be a hobby truck, for lack of a better phrase. I'm going to build it up slowly over the next six years then pass it on to my daughter. So longevity, handling, safety and lots of steel. plus when she drives it all of the boys are going to drool. :-)

i think you may want to get your daughter a beaten up truck to practice with before giving her the keys to a nice truck. i have seen a lot of nice trucks damaged by young women drivers.
