Default what are you getting for MPG?

Hi I'm new here, still getting used to everything around here. I decided to see what my MPG is in my 1999 Ram 1500 with the 239 3.9l V6 Magnum. I filled up my tank, drove about 275 miles combined around town and semi-highway driving and then filled up yesterday. Took around 20 gal. to fill up (my truck has the 26 gal. tank). Then I divided my mileage by the number of gallons and got just under 14mpg (13.75 actually). That seems really low to me, I know it's a full size pick up, but I should be getting more like 17-20mpg right? What are you guys getting, and is this mileage about the same as a 318? If so, I want to upgrade...haha

17-20mpg? Hell no...

The V6 is under-powered and gets about the same mileage as the V8's, both 318 and 360.

Best of both worlds as someone else here said "V6 power, V8 fuel economy"

Don't know how many 6 cylinder's you'll find but here's some good reading:

Have a look here:

Chances are it needs to be fixed, you can pull off the throttle body and look into the intake with flashlight and small mirror to confirm the presence of oil.

That and a good tune up (don't tell VW I called it that) and you might see a slight MPG increase. But 14 is probably a good number for the V6.

I average around 14.5 mpg with a 5.9L 360. But my driving is easily 90%+ highway.

No. Blinker fluid threads are better.

Wow...I really thought I should be getting better. Well then, I'm definitely going to look for another truck this spring. I was going to look for a 4x4 2nd Gen Ram w/ a 318 this spring/summer anyway.

Why are you going to look for a different truck? Pretty much any older truck out there is going to get the MPG your getting now. Are you saying your going to look for a V-8 truck? But aren't worried about the fuel econemy? IF that is the case can I ask why did you buy this truck in the first place?

You could get a 2wd 1st gen cummins and hit around 24mpg (plus 50 cents more per gallon for fuel)
