Shortening a frame won't hurt integrity if it's done correctly. People do it all the time.

That USAF bobtail is another story though, since it's maintained by the government

It's not the guys working on 'em that's the problem, its the folks driving them....

When I was stationed up at K.I. Sawyer AFB, we got six brand spanking new ford explorer 4x4s.... Within a month, two had been rolled, one had been driven into a ravine..... (totaled) another had slid sideways down a hill, and encountered a tree... another had the oil pan ripped off on a stump, and wasted the motor...... number six got buried in a muddy creek...... when it was finally pulled out..... a significant number of driveline parts were still in the mud......

Wow. That's pretty rough. These days people would get in a lot of trouble for treating vehicles that way.

Then again, it was likely done professionally.

As a veteran of the Air Force I can tell you that those are purpose built like that by Dodge for the military.

Why'd they keep letting you drive?

And they are still falling apart POS's because they airmen who drive them have zero respect for stuff that isn't theirs.
