The 6.4 Hemis with a tune and a good exhaust and intake are super nasty.. I would love nothing more than to own one.. But I need a truck more than car... If the 6.4's go into a ram I will ****** up a 1500 regular cab short bed in a heartbeat....

Oh don't talk about Mercedes... Junk. CAT's are good but like you said Expensive. I don't care for how they run as much as I like Cummins and International NaviStar, but wouldn't dislike them too much. Oh and I hate Perkins. Too light duty IMO.

Why not build our own Diesel that would be a drop in replacement for a 5.9L Magnum? And one for the 8.0L Magnum? Then we could swap in a cinch. Use same mounts, not all the same electrical.

I've driven a ton of different diesels, I think one of the biggest issues is how the engine is matched to the truck in HD/commercial application... seems to be the absolute minimum especially in "shop" trucks.

We have lighter duty Kenworths where I work and they have Packer engines in them they seem kind of wimpy, could be a fine engine but seems underpowered for the trucks.

We had a late 80's GMC Brigadier dump truck w/ a Detroit in it, pulled like hell and had a great sound.

We have several trucks with the Cat's in them and I have to admit those I really like.

I have read alot lately from Dodge thinking about offering a Diesel in their 1500's... It will most likely be a few years before that happens.. In reality if you have a donor truck it would not be that much work swapping a 6bt in place of our 5.9's... The thing keeping me from doing such a thing would be frame strength.. Yea I know alot you will say its all the same but I dont feel the same... IMHO I would rather be swapping a big block Mopar into my 1500... 426 or 440... Whatever you may choose.. Its got killer HP and TQ... That and the sound of a big block is just about as intoxicating as a diesel...

Pacar... LMFAO pain in the *** to work on.. Even worse to drive... I drove 2 before and I hated it.. Alot of fleet guys who have them in their rigs complain about it.. Old detroit motors werent bad... New ones I would rather not have to deal with them.. Cummins,Mack and CAT are where its at.

Haha the 5.9L Cummins sure do alot, but I am always looking over the horizon.

What I also want to see is some better transmissions. I never have liked automatics, just don't feel right too me. What these new Cummins with the 6spd manual they are putting out could use is a Torque Amplifier or 8 spds. 2 overdrive and 6 underdrive. When towing gears are almost everything. Most transmissions 6spds or less auto or manual just don't have two close underdrive gears right next to each other in the normal highway range. This would be most useful when towing. Many times a slight ratio increase will be enough instead of dropping a whole 1 ratio just to keep going. I don't know if I am making sense here...
