Been reviewing my options and thought I might reconsider perhaps going with a 2nd Gen 2500 5.9L 4x4.

What do you guys think of this one?
2002 Dodge Ram 2500 Truck SLT $8,875

I like that it's an automatic with manual shift to 4x4. Should this be able to haul my Allis WD if needed? The tractor weighs around 5,000lbs. It's been babied, too.

And then there's this one: 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4WD SLT Laramie

The only drawback I see with the 1998 is it has the 5.2L, which I feel might be a bit gutless with 4WD.

The issue I see with both of these trucks is that they are both V8's. Which you just got rid of. Your tractor is 5k lbs, I think a Cummins would be better suited and get better gas mileage.

And just a little nitpick here, but the 1500 has the t-case lever pulled back. Big no-no for dealer pictures, IMO.

I *might* have to haul the tractor, so I want to be able to do so when the task arrives. Remember, I made some impressive scrap hauls with my old 5.2L heading to town. The old gal grunted on hills, and took a while to get up to speed, but she came through.

The 2002 has such low miles that I'm inclined to jump all over it. Plus, it's a 2500 5.9L. Too bad the transmission from my 1997 won't bolt into the 2002, because the upgraded goodies would be perfect.

You might see if your upgraded parts would fit in the new trans. There are some where it doesn't matter what year the trans is as long as it's RE.
Price is a bit high for a missing foglight and right rear hub cap, but the interior looks GREAT. If you can prove the plenum is blown, maybe you can get them down more.

Just remember, a 2WD will always tow better than a 4x4. I learned that the hard way. lol

Why is that? I recently hauled a loaded trailer back from Wisconsin with a 2009 2500 diesel 4x4 and it handled fine.

Well, 4x4 gasser to 2WD gasser and 4x4 diesel to 2WD diesel only the diesels aren't quite as affected by the extra drivetrain drag.
