Okay, I'll look. It's hard to start SOMETIMES but I figured that was because of the carb.

BTW, techjockey.

Running pig rich or fat will kill a motor just as fast as running it lean. 6psi is average for a carb setup.

Mine only runs that rich when it's 30 degrees outside.

Crazzy, I just checked: no return line. Then I remembered something: this truck had an auxiliary tank in the bed. So the fuel system on this truck isn't factory.

Set the choke up right and that will go away, that and let it warm up for a bit. The aux tank will have nothing to do with the return line if it ever had one which I don't think it did. I will check my books later on and see if they had one or not.

The choke is likely set up for Texas. lol I likely won't be running it much in the winter (hopefully) so it's a non-issue at this point.

I am not running it rich enough to wash the cylinder walls, I know that because I HAVE done that before. Now the puffing black smoke was a little bit of a joke, I turned it down slightly from where it was smoking whenever I'd stomp on it, but I do run a tad on the rich side, because in my experience it helps with performance. Most of the time it never smokes at all, and doesn't smell rich either.

As far as fouling spark plugs, never had a problem with that with my method. I'll get around to pulling them one of these days and see what they indicate. Anyone wanna bet ?

I'd imagine they would have worn like regular, maybe, have a bit of fuel on em from being rich.

what are you adjusting that would make it smoke when you stomp on it? none of the screws on my carb will make the engine smoke when i stomp on it.

If you need your carb to run rich to get performance out of it, you have a problem with your secondaries.

I'm talking about the external fuel regulator. I'm running 7PSI, seems to work good.

DD, I don't see why it'd be making great power if the secondaries weren't working. I will pull the plugs though and see what the whole story is.
