1 ton steering upgrade
once you get the parts list for the 98-99, buy the tie rod ends, adjuster sleeves and one lower drag link for the 98-99. then just replace the upper drag link with the appropriate joint for the year. if you try to put 9.25 aam joints on the d44 you may need to trim down the extra long threaded areas.
I don't know how simpler to explain it.

this one ton steering mod has done wonders for my 96 1500. way less bump steer. a true straight track down the road. no need for a hydraulic steering stabilizer. no more back and forth on the steering wheel. easier to drink and drive!

Isn't the taper different on the knuckles for the 98-99 HDs as well, like moparfanatic21 mentioned? Ive searched through threads on this topic on a few forums just trying to make sense of it. most of what I read they are talking about the conversion for 2nd gen 2500/3500 diesels. I do remember coming across someone saying the 4th gen conversion used on the 00-02 500/3500 fit the 00-01 1500 as well.
94-99 1500/2500/3500 use 98-99HD
00-01 1500 (02 2500/3500) use the 4th Gen Steering. Trimming may be orginal I'm unsure.
The best option is crossover steering.

The tapers in the knuckle are different to.
Not off the top of my head... I just remember looking it up in the past... found the taper angle, then found a matching ream.
