You can cut the pipe right after the cat, leave it that way, and still pass emissions here in Ohio. They only do a cat check and diagnostics check (OBD2 port). If it fails diagnostics they do a tailpipe sniff. With a working cat it should be fine. But, since you don't have to worry about it, don't. Route the exhaust however you like.

if you're going to cut it - cut the pipe in a nice straight stretch with at least 2 or 3 inches of pipe on each side so you could put it back together if need be.

maybe 3-4-5-6 inches past the cat.

don't wrestle with the muffler clamps or hack up that connection try to save the entire pipe. i've tried it. all you end up doing is making a mess.

that's a little confusing...so do I just cut in front of the cat and take everything past the cut off? or do I make two cuts to take just the muffler off, and leave the rest of the pipe there even though it won't serve any purpose?

so basically im looking at cut+unbolt all of muffler and pipe past my cut, or make two cuts before and after the muffler+ take that off+leave the rest of the pipe be

Make sure your exhaust extends beyond the back of the cab. If not, you are taking the chance of killing yourself. (not a generally suggested practice.)

Find a straight stretch of pipe at least eight inches long, BEHIND THE CAB, and cut there. Install turn-down. See what ya think.

a quality muffler that cost 70 bucks, compared to 5 bucks of piping.

i personally like my deleted cat and cherry bomb no crackle or backfire and nice deep rumble.

It doesn't matter how we think it sounds. It's how you think it sounds. I put up a couple vids. If you like it, do it. If not, then don't.
