Usually yes. You'll find some, even here on DF, that claim to have a fair amount of mileage without plenum issues.

 

im interested to see if im one of those ppl. i bought this truck from a family member who i know takes very well care of his vehicles so id like to think its good but ill have to pull the intake off and see what the deal is just to be sure

 

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how well you care for the vehicle.

 

+1. This is a design issue and not a maintenance issue. Can increase cost of operation, and cause significant (and expensive) damage if ignored.

 

i saw a video of a 98 with coolant in the block. is that due to the plenum?

 

Wouldn't think so. Plenum issue eats oil, fouls spark plugs, kills O2 sensors, clogs catalytic converters, etc.....


Sounds more like blown head gaskets or cracked heads...

 

No, as stewie01 has stated. I suggest you take the time and read the plenum sticky.
