i have to change the bypass hose above the water pump. i read on here that i should replace the water pump, fan clutch and timing chain but i would rather not mess with the timing.. whats your opinions and how hard is it?
+1 on using a good double roller timing chain and gear set. While you are at it, install a timing chain tensioner, too. This will keep your engine timing rock solid for years! You can find the tensioner here, along with its MOPAR Performance part number:
pull the pump, then timing cover. rotate motor til dots on timing gears line up. pull timing set, and replace. put back together.
easy as pie!
it'll look like this. note the location of the timing dots and keyways.
once you pull the sprockets, do NOT rotate the engine and do NOT remove or twist the distributor.
