Default Planning for 360 build

Alright, gotta another ride so that means the truck can have some significant downtime. I plan on pulling the 360 out in the fall/winter months to rebuild with some performance parts

I'd like to collect the parts over the summer as much as possible so it won't break the bank as bad lol.

I have my own ideas but I'm a complete noob at this. First time planning a build and stuff. the wrenching won't be a problem but I know for a successful build everything has to work together.

General idea for the build- want to beef the power up and keep it down low. It's still a truck the torque should be down low

Initial things to do
Rings? I've got 210,000 miles on it. Compression is around 150 across the board but I figure why not. Don't know what kind though. Can you replace rings without having to bore?

Cylnder Heads- Clearwater Odessa seems to be the best. I first wanted the ones similar to the Hughes iron rams with stock size valves but better castings with better flow. I don't see them on eBay anymore however. Would the monster EQ heads with larger valves work with right intake/cam?

Cam- no clue on this one, don't want a screamer

Rockers- always wanted 1.7 Harland sharp but I know that can cause some problems if you don't plan right

Intake- maybe an M1 but As I understand that's for higher rpm motors. Considered a Hughes but then read how ghetto it actually was. Probably gonna keep the kegger

Lifters- what kind and from where?

Bottom end- guess it depends on what it looks like when I open everything up. No reason to believe its not fine. Maybe crank bearings?

Sct tuner and wideband O2

Well that's all I can think of at the moment. I'm open to all suggestions. I'm a beginner with this engine building stuff so I need all the advice I can get

Aren't the sct tuners being discontinued?

Question is.. What is your budget? What kind of power numbers do you want?

And yes the X2 9550? is being discontinued by SCT. Sean at Hemifever had some stock left, they are going to X3, could be a couple of months before it's ready and it will be another $100-$150...

Take a look at Rednecks build thread, I think he spent over $4k on the motor all together. But it would give you an idea for a good low end grunt motor...

Yep have a look at his thread. He never touched the short block so add about $2000 more to that price tag.

Pistons, rods, crank, bearings, balancing the rotating assy, machine work, and so on. A small kit for say a 365cid is around $1200+ with those parts and balancing, but you need to add the cost of machine work as well, so $2000 is on the low end of things. The block would need to be specd out to see if you can just re-ring it, if you are going to do this do it right don't half A** anything, build it the right way and it will out last the rest of the truck, and make some good numbers at the same time.
