E85? You mean that stuff that will cost thousands to replace stuff that's fallen apart even after you do a conversion?

Don't know of anyone that has and don't see a reason to. E85 is the death of the gasoline engine.

There was another thread, around here, that went into detail about E85; however, I'm having trouble finding it.

Overall, it's bad news.

I know they make conversions but I never read much into them. I have had a few friends have race cars run on alcohol that I worked on and they run great. E85 is $1.00 cheaper per gallon her right now and my wife's Yukon takes it. I just wondered if anyone else tried to run it.

It's not cheaper because the engine has to use more fuel to operate. REAL gas is the way to go.

The mpg doesn't drop that much to offset $1.00/ gallon!! I have never run anything other than E10 unless it was a lawn mower or something like that. We have had quite a few cars go over 200K running only an ethanol blend. E85 isn't the devil, its just something different. I don't know if I would ever do a conversion because I knew it could eat up rubber lines and possibly fuel pumps, just wondering if anyone has ever tried before.

Your 87 with 10% ethanol is more like 82 with ethanol that doesn't combust to its full octane in your low compression street engine

^Bingo. Dad's Ram picked up 2 mpg going from E10 to straight gas. E85 equipped vehicles will have less of an issue, but they also have retarded ignition timing IIRC.

i think you need to run your wifes yukon on gas and see how much better gas mileage it get compared to the ethanol poison.

We run the Yukon on gas quite often. The breaking point is about $.50/gal. If E85 is more than that we run it, it is isn't it is better to run gas. I have also tried a few tanks of just gas in other vehicles to compare and its usually right about the same mpg +/- 1mpg. And it is always $.10 or more cheaper than regular. You guys know I live in Iowa right? I have a lot of family that makes a lot of money both selling corn and making ethanol. Keeping family in business is worth saving $.10/gal and giving up 1 mpg to me.
