Default Normal oil consumption?

Hi everybody. I have a '99 Ram, 5.9 L engine with 137000 miles. It runs good and seems to have plenty of power. I have not had it long. I changed the oil in it after I got it home. That was 1800 miles ago. It has used/lost 3/4 to a full quart of oil in that 1800. I don't notice any smoke out the tail pipe nor is there any oil on the ground where I park it.
So I am wondering / hoping that I don't have plenium issues and that some oil use can be normal with these engines when they have some miles on them. Anybody have thoughts, facts or opinions about this? Thanks for anything you could share.

Jim

I have a 210xxx mile 360 with a fixed plenum and I don't burn a drop of oil.

Check the plenum sticky at the top of the tech section and check it. Most likely it's leaking/blown and just fix it. You would gain performance and help prevent cracked heads/clogged cats

I have 204K miles on my 5.9L and don't have any oil problems either, but I haven't checked if I have the plenum fix yet.

Ok guys, after looking through the plenum thread and hearing about your trucks I have to believe that I do have a leaky plenum gasket. I am gonna make a few phone calls today and see if I can find someone to do the work at a price I can afford. Thanks for the replies.

Be sure to put an aluminum plate back on, otherwise your problems will just come back eventually. A guy on ebay sells them for half the price of hughes.

The work is not that hard if you have basic tools, just labor intensive, but very do able in one full day of careful work.

I would be curious to hear what labor charges were on taking it to the shop to get fixed.

Out the door parts and labor, $465.00 . That's a lot of money to me but I wanted it fixed ASAP.

A thread that can help shed some more info on the non-complicated plenum gasket of doom.
