Well either way it'll be a magnum, 318 or 360. Basically the same thing

A carburetor is nothing more than a controlled fuel leak. Also, I doubt the accuracy of your statement that building a carb'd engine is cheaper than a throttle body engine.

Well for what I would do to it if I keep the throttle body is
Big gulp tb $250
Edelbrock intake $700
Odessa monster heads $900
Comp extreme energy cam $350
Keith black hypereutectic pistons $300
SCT tuner $4-600 depending on what I want
Little bit bigger injector $ not exactly sure, not sure how bid I'd go

Adds up to round about 3 grand-3300 without all the little stuff like gasket kits and what not

Edelbrock 600 CFM carb $375 but I already have it
Weiand intake $150
Comp cam $350
Pistons $300

Adds up to around $1500 with everything, then yes I would have a bit more in making everything on the truck work but not 1500 bucks worth.

The little things add up. It won't be any cheaper to run a carb.

Do some investigation on what it would take to make the trans work. That's going to be the biggest problem.

It's your truck. Do what you want with it. Whatever you decide, just be sure to start a build thread so we can keep up.

I agree with Jkeaton. Mccart, get moving on this. At least you got some drive to do it and that matters. Consider all the constructive criticism as it will still be valuable. I'm sure there are people out there they may be in such a situation like you where they may have on hand parts already.

@Gary -- shut it! let's see what he can do. We all need to continue learning things. Finding out what doesn't work sometimes isn't realized until in practice or having experimental dattaaaaaaa!

To clarify, I'm not being sarcastic. It's your truck, your time, your knowledge currently with an openness for more to come. That is some of the essence to a project.

You're right, it is his truck; however, I shake my head every time someone claims they can make a vehicle run better, faster, cheaper with a carb than with fuel injection. It's been my experience that the people who badmouth fuel injection are the ones who do not understand it.

Just to clarify on the carbed intake, I believe there's only 2-3 that make a intake to put a carb on a magnum engine and weiand wasn't one of them. Magnum heads bolt straight down while the older la heads bolt on an angle.
