Default Traded my keys.....for a GMC

Well today is the day I traded my truck keys back to my dad.

In December of 96' my dad bought my truck brand new basically off the back of the Semi, I was only 5 years old then. The next 12 years I spent almost every day in the passenger seat of that truck, we used it to travel all over Florida to my BMX races, to family and it was used to tow the boat almost every weekend in the summer. Then I learned how to drive in it, and took my drivers test in it. It was my first vehicle to drive and when I turned 18 it became my first car.

When I got it, it was just a stock looking truck with faded paint and lots of memories.

I spent many of weekends working on it and got it just where I wanted it to look. But at 210K miles on the truck and 17 years its time for me to get rid of it.

I traded the keys to my dad for his 2004 GMC 1500 that only has 130K on it and just had new heads installed.

He will be selling the dodge and I may never see it again. However one day again I will own another and hopefully a 2nd gen just like my old one but 4x4.

Such a shame to get rid of an old truck that has so many memories.

You'll regret it one day.

Yes, you'll regret it! I'm running mine to 300,000 if she makes it.

I'll probably have a tranny rebuild in there somewhere too.

Why are you getting rid of it?

Nope there's going to be no regrets, I'm 22 and going to be looking for a job as an RN soon, going to need a reliable vehicle to drive to work that gets better than 11.5 mpg. Don't have the money or room for 2 vehicles yet so my dad made me the offer of his old truck for mine. Its the right decision money wise, and Ill make new memories in this truck, to add to the few already.

I'm passing the stage of no bills and being able to have fun on the weekends and fix during the week. Its time to grow up for me and the new truck will help get me on my way. The GMC is worth close to 9K and my dodge might be worth 3k.

It may take me 5 years but I still plan on going back to a dodge, probably after I get a house of my own.

Good luck with your truck. As long as it's a truck who cares what make it is. Just dont break down and get a Prius....

I'm sure Ill be lurking in from time to time, yeah and no Prius. A Prius wont be able to tow the boat, and isn't big enough for my toolbox. I have been slowly moving stuff over into my new truck and I didn't notice how much crap I had in the dodge. But damn the two extra doors is nice.
