Default Got A New Ride

Been looking at getting another vehicle and fixing&selling my current ram for a few months now. Was really eyeing a new body style silverado gasser or an older cummins/duramax/powerjoke truck. However I quickly realized how much a new decent truck was really gonna be costing me considering I will soon be paying student loans and moving into my own apartment come summertime.

And in between looking at trucks I would take a peek at some motorcycles for sale on craigslist. I even almost traded my truck back in november for a honda shadow 750 Well, found a great deal about a week ago on a harley and pulled the trigger. Figured I'd show off what I got for those who are into 2 wheelers.

1990 Sportster XLH1200 - $2600
Top end rebuilt <10,000mi ago, bored over a bit, performance cams, S&S carb, vance & hines exhaust, forward controls, belt drive conversion, 4spd trans, mini ape hangers

Got some cosmetic changes in mind for it to make it a little more chopper style, just hope I dont put too much money into it

I was lucky enough to have a 50* day a couple days ago and got it take it for a quick ride. Now there's a snowstorm coming and the bikes gotta hibernate for now. But man is it fun..and loud. I know my neighbors will enjoy listening to it even more than my truck

Here's good advice. I had a 91 Electra glide and rode year round. Wear chaps, it'll save your hide. Nice looking ride.............K

Nice sporty. I plan on getting one in a year or 2 when my daughter can reach the pegs . I've got a GSXR750 but I don't want her on that yet!

chaps won't save your a$$.

I wear riding pants over my regular pants when I ride my dirtbike.

They look like a regular pair of jeans but they aren't. they are kevlar lined on the inside to protect your butt, legs, etc..

got them about 2 sizes too big for me intentionally so I can wear pants under them.

I also wear riding boots and full upper body armor that has hard protection for shoulders, chest, spine, elbows forearms, and soft protection for the rest. and of course... helmet and gloves.

protect your butt... trust me! do not leave your bum exposed because if you dump the bike...guess what... you are most likely going to slide on your butt and back and your butt will get cheese grated in mere seconds of sliding on pavement.

having good gear means you can usually get back up and ride off with maybe a few bruises...

having little to no gear means hospital trip and weeks of recovery from serious flesh injuries... (been there, done that...got kevlar riding pants right after...)

At 55 mph, blue jeans last 3 tenths of a second on pavement......

I thoroughly thrashed an air force field jacket sliding on my back on gravel, when I purposely through away my bike. (the alternative was FAR worse..... At least I gave some guy with his girlfriend an interesting site to watch..... I probably looked pretty funny sliding along the road on my back..... He wasn't watching the road, (he was watching me...) and totally ignored the corner, and ended up in some guys' front yard.

Yeah, I'm not one to sacrifice body to look cool. I plan getting a full face modular helmet in a few weeks and a decent jacket, pants and gloves before i start taking any long trips

my carhartts lasted a second or two then the warm burning feeling started on my butt and I jammed my boots down to push my butt off the pavement... was already too late at that point, but it could have been worse.

I was being a dummy and doing a wheelie at 50mph+ with a backpack full of ammo and booze. doing a wheelie with that much weight on your back = not a very good idea but I did it and I went too high and fell off the back of the bike. backpack got pretty shredded up.. ammo and booze survived. I got a nice cheese graded *** and 2 huge holes in my carhartt pants and underwear.

I got up. buddy stood up my bike for me... knew my butt was in bad shape, so I got on the bike right away, kick started it and took off full throttle full speed standing on the pegs racing home to clean it up, use something to soak it up and put some shorts on that fit loose and got a ride to the hospital to get it numbed and scrubbed out real good, and some pain killers for the god awful pain to come the next few weeks after the adrenaline rush wears off...

I was just wondering how well my dickies work pants would hold up considering I wear them all the time anyways. I assume they last just as long as your carharrts did.
