Default Fixes / Upgrades to my truck

So I just got my truck 1.5 weeks ago. It has 190,000 miles but everything seems to be in good shape. Compression on all the cylinders is about 125, except for #s 7 and 8, which are about 115. Plenum is blown, but I'm fixing that next week.

My plan of attack is next weekend I'm installing a ported kegger intake manifold with the aluminum plate. I'm also replacing the lifters with HD lifters, double roller timing chain w/ tensioner, Magnaflow Hi-Flow cat with new O2 sensors. Also installing a new water pump, and while I'm at it, I'm replacing the Valve Stem Seals. Replacing spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor as well.

I know that I may lose a little torque with the ported kegger (I already have it with the plate already on it), but I don't really want to lose too much torque.

Is there anything else I should to to the truck while I'm working on it? Any suggestions for a little more power without killing torque? Is a tuner a good idea (already have one from another truck, just would need a new tune)?

While you're doing the water pump, thermostats are cheap. Check your top & bottom hoses. I'm assuming you have a good heater, so check AC. I'm used to tunes for a diesel but not a gasser. I'm not sure what the net gain is on a 5.9 360 gas for cost/benefit (what does just a tune cost?). How many years for pay back? I doubt there are many with tunes on these 360's (I could be wrong).

The usual stuff like tire pressure, tire size, gearing (future mod). Then there's the photo (nice looking truck I recall). Capture your data for mods and specifics under user cp so it will show up in your sig that you need. K.

Oh yeah, after looking at dman12323's 98 truck (click on his truck), he spells out serpentine belt (so check the belt).

Tuning on this 5.9 it's a 97..............98 or newer

I'd be looking at getting aftermarket heads. People here have really said good things about Odessa.

Thanks TInCan! I'm doing the thermostat as well. Since I already own a tuner, for my previous Dodge Ram, I think a new tune would just be $75 or so. I'll have to check with the tuner. I'll be installing a new belt too.

Wh1t3Nukle, Thanks for the tip. I actually own a pair of the Odessa 2.02 heads that I'm not using right now. Had them in another truck, but with the heads and camshaft I was using, Sean at HemiFever told me I had to run premium gasoline. I think I will look into their Stock replacement heads at some point, maybe after I sell the ones I have. I have another 360 short block, I'll probably put the Odessa stock replacement heads on it at some point, cause current engine will get tired someday.

HeyYou, I'll take the heads to the machine shop and get them checked out. I'll send you a PM after I hear back from the shop. Any interest in this http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/p...=&partid=11430 camshaft? I'd personally like to stay with regular gasoline than premium...

Works for me.

That is a reground cam. That means that stock length pushrods may not work properly, or, require adjustable rockers. Also note, that the stock rocker ratio is 1.6:1, so you are looking at the second set of lift numbers, which are greater than what the stock springs will do. They want you to buy their springs, as "others" simply won't work...... Right.

I would be far more tempted to look for a cam with similar specs, from another manufacturer.......
