Default looking to buy an exhaust tip for my truck.

Hello all, I want to buy a exhaust tip for my truck, its a 2001 ram 1500 5.9. what is the best brand? what is the most affordable but still sounds great? I'm thinking MagnaFlow or FlowMaster but some of theirs on kind of on the pricey side. Also, is weld-on, clamp-on or bolt-on better?

Tips dont really alter the sound IMO, more just the looks. Your preference on install method, I went with a weld on.

I had a welded SS tip on the diesel, but the welds were not sufficient for the vibration and it fell off. I had it bolted back on with two bolts. If you go with a weld fitment tip, check behind them for welds. K.

A larger diameter tip (if long enough) could deepen the note a little, but this would require that the existing pipe be cut short by the length of the new tip... this little detail is often overlooked, and the tip is just slid over the existing (for looks only).

I have dual 3 inch wide and about 13 inch long tips and they are the clamp style that you tighten with the bolt. I had them off for awhile and they honestly didn't make a sound difference when I put them back on. They are the slant cut from Big Country and still look like new after 4 or 5 years of being on...even with winter elements. Might look into them also. I'm not sure what the definition of a "long tip" is though...I feel mine are long but maybe not.

On the diesel side what Spillage said is dead on. My tip was 9" long 4" diameter on a 3" pipe.
When it fell off I had the window down and the pitch went up ever so slightly. It gives it a
deeper tone (now note I have no silencer ring in the turbo). To me a long tip is 10".
